Most of Russian mobile operators are pre-paid, and getting a SIM card here is pretty straightforward. Any phone works, unles it’s locked on a specific provider. In that case you can either unlock it (which is risky and not too straightforward) or get yourself a pre-paid package (phone included) worth about $30 all in all. Those can be bought from one of the major operator stores: Megafon, Beeline & MTS. Or through any mobile retailer: Evroset, Svyaznoy and many more. Getting a pre-paid mobile phone in Russia is not a problem.

Do I need to pay any taxes in US if I live and work in Russia given that I'm a permanent resident in States

Do I need to pay any taxes in US if I live and work in Russia given that I'm a permanent resident in States?
I've heard that all US permanent residents have to pay taxes on their world-wide earnings, is that true? IRS website says it is. So I must pay Russian federal tax here and then US federal tax from the same earnings?

Yes, you need to file a US federal tax return. But you will be given credit for taxes paid in Russia. More importantly, if you stay out of the US for too long, you will lose your green card. BTW, not paying US taxes is good proof to the immigration officers that you are no longer resident in the US.

A US permanent resident (green card holders) that start working in another country lose his green card immediately. So when you start working in Russia you will not be a US permanent resident anymore, so no need to pay taxes to the US, obviously.

Yes, you need to report your earnings elsewhere if you are claiming to be a LPR. Hopefully you already knew this but if you are out of the country for more than 6 months and have not applied for travel document, I-131, you will lose your permanent resident status! For more information on that particular issue and how to get re-entry permit go to: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=17be96981298d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=828807b03d92b010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

YES Also if you are out of USA for more than 1 years as a green card holder, you will LOSE the green card status but still be required to pay taxes to USA no matter where you live.

If you were given the oppurtunity to work in Russia for half a year, would you take it

If you were given the oppurtunity to work in Russia for half a year, would you take it?
Well today, if you haven't guessed I've been given a chance to work in Moscow, for 1 month then Siberia, for 6 months, the whole thing would start in October, during the coldest temperatures in Europe/Asia. Work would obviously be isolated in Siberia, but I guess it would be killer on my résumé, plus it'll be kind of calming and a new experience. Would you take the opportunity?

Is it better to work with Russia or Make them an Enemy

Is it better to work with Russia or Make them an Enemy?
There are some in the US who feel Russia, even after they became a democracy, is still the enemy. The Germans killed more Americans, but they are our friends now. Though we do not agree on everything. Would it be better to make Russia a friend or treat them as an enemy?

It is better to work with them, Cause Russia can spank us.
2 :
Third way. Work with Russia and against them depending upon our interests at the time.
3 :
Working with Russia, as the west did with Germany before the war won't stop Russia from acting like an enemy. By your logic, we should take the place over, run it for 10 years, and then set them on their way, like we did with Germany.
4 :
OF course it would be better to work with them. But that means they have to work with us as well. And that isn't happening. The Germans may have killed more Americans in WWII, but they weren't the antithesis and rival of America for the 50 years following it...your logic is terrible.

That is what is going on, Russia is rolling with the US and China is rolling with Iran. China gets most their oil from Iran. China is also making deals with Venezuela. Russia today is no less capitalistic then the US only the amount of state involvement is more and that is fading with their communist fading generations.

With Russia they will shake your hand while stabbing you in the back.

What is true on a smaller scale can be basically true on a grand scale . I may not agree with my neighbors about everything but I try to mind my own business and I try to get along with my neighbors . There is a lot of good to be said about Peace in the neighborhood . People are happier and more productive .

we know where Germany stands on issues of politics and our national security - they aren't the ones arming venezuela (run by a notoriously anti-American regime) either. we never know where russia stands on any issue - one day they're our best comrades, the next they're puffing out their chests and demanding concessions from us.
9 :
Really? You think it's OUR choice? According to Russia, they ARE an enemy. What sort of "work with Russia" do you imagine would change that? There are some in the US who BELIEVE Russia when it SAYS it is still the enemy. It would it be best to CONTINUE offering Russia friendship while not PRETENDING they've already accepted it.
10 :
Sure. That's what Chamberlain did with Hitler. Brought "Peace in our time", for a few months.
11 :
:))) There is no illusions that Russia will always be an enemy for the western countries. It is not because Russia is the main part of former USSR. Such situation started many years before. Western countries always are afraid of Russia, since 17-19 centuries, from Peter the Great, Suvorov and Kutuzov. Long live Russia and its the best allies - Army and Fleet!
12 :
It's better to work with them. the USA isn't going to be an invincible stronghold for much longer

It's best to do whatever dis-empowers the corpo-thugs working the military industrial complex. I can't help but think our president is a front man, since our government has become such an effective front for organized crime (on both sides from bottom to top). However, when he makes moves away from the MIC it is a very good thing. Republicans give our corrupted government way too much credit in its handling of foreign policy and war. Corruption breeds corruption and its been building up for decades in our system. President Obama didn't bring it in; the media-thugs just want it to look that way so the bigwig criminals on top can keep getting away with murder.
