The Sidekick (or the Danger Hiptop as it's actually called, Sidekick is just the T-Mobile branding for the device) is a standard GSM phone, T-Mobile is not the only service provider to carry it, it can be unlocked for other providers also. All you need to do is obtain a SIM card from the company you wish to use for service and insert it into your Hiptop, and you'll be all set. However, the Sidekick can only be fully utilized with an unlimited data plan, without one you're going to be spending a lot of money in data charges for the web browser, email, instant messaging, etc.

Why is it that Communism did not work in Russia

Why is it that Communism did not work in Russia?
How was Communism in Russia as a developmental model proved ineffective?

Because communism never works...
2 :
2 reasons. #1, when you equalize income for every citizen, the average income is close to if not below the poverty level. #2, Why do a good job at work when you get paid the same thing no matter what? Also you didn't get to chose your job, so you probably have no interest in it.
3 :
Communism cant work on a national, state and sometimes even city level Human nature prevents it. It only works with a small group of people who can keep one another accountable. Example a tribe on an island could do communism because everyone knows everyone and somone slacks of the group is able to keep them accountable for pulling their weight. This is just simply not possible on a huge scale...especially Russias.
4 :
Same reason liberals tell you all socialist governments, socialist programs have never worked. The right people were not running those governments or programs.
5 :
i had this as a homework assignment before: on paper communism looks good you know equal income, therefore opportunities for all however, when this is actually applied, the equal income for all means all are poor, no one has any opportunity. the gov't owns the means of production, therefore only those in the elite gov't circle become rich. however, if human nature was truly non selfish, then communism will in theory work well. equality and all but as long as there is greed, communism will never work.
6 :
people tend to like freedom..
7 :
People got tired of living in poverty without the necessities of life!
8 :
Lots of reasons. Human nature being the biggest factor. Corruption in the party, never dealing with interest rates with the ruble, high taxes, big wasteful spending, dumping money and weapons around the world to support other communist movements.
9 :
The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power...

The Russian system of communism was not true communism. Communism puts control back into the hands of the worker, but what happened after the Russian revolution is radical leaders sought power for themselves, so they implemented a different kind of communism where the government owned all the businesses. When the government was given all the power to control the worker, they started implementing programs like national quota's. The quota systems ruined the country, because sure you had 100,000 televisions...but none of them worked. They put quantity over quality. In a moderately socialist state the means of production lie in the hands of the workers. For example, labor unions. Labor unions make it so that the workers must be treated fairly and receive a fair wage for their work. If those demands are met, business goes on and prospers. Happy workers mean happy businesses. If communism goes in the wrong direction you end up with just a complete opposite of capitalism. Instead of having rich smucks own the means of production, everything is over-regulated.
12 :
communism requires government aggression. aggression is using force or coercion against non aggressive (peaceful) individuals. communism (and socialism) requires the government to use force to take property from one person under the guise of redistributing it to another. anytime a government uses aggression against it's own citizens it is bound to fail. liberty and justice require each other, and aggression suppresses both. without liberty and justice people are not efficient (competitive) and better systems arise.

Here is a MUST read for all students: The American socialist experiment http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0902/0902amsoc.htm This was written in Old English about 400 years ago. Quote: "--that the taking away of propertie, and bringing in communitie into a comone wealth would make them happy and florishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this comunitie (so farr as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontente, and retard much imployment that would have been to their benefite and comforte. For the yong-men that were most able and fitte for labour and service did repine that they should spend their time and streingth to worke for other mens wives and children, with out any recompense. The strong, or man of parts, had no more in divission of victails and cloaths, than he that was weake and not able to doe a quarter the other could; this was thought injustice. The aged and graver men to be ranked and equalised in labours, and victuals, cloaths, etc., with the meaner and younger sorte, thought it some indignite and disrespect unto them. And for men's wives to be commanded to doe service for other men, as dresing their meate, washing their cloaths, etc., they deemed it a kind of slavery, neither could many husbands well brooke it. "
14 :
-because it wasnt true communism and was a dictatorship
15 :
Because the government seized too much power, and people naturally aren't equal (realization helped along by government's over-reaching abilities). We're animals, just a little more sophisticated than all the other species, and 9 times out of 10, our animal instincts match humanity more often than our social ones do. The "works on paper" communism that the armchair philosophers around here love so much never seems to account for the fact that most people--by nature--don't want to be equal in every single way. And this..."each gave according to their abilities, and received according to their needs" (K. Marx)...are you kidding me? What in the world makes anyone think that they can get 6.5 billion, 300 million, or even a just a couple hundred people to make this work? And how can anyone think that it'd be wise to let someone else dictate what you're worth, especially when that other person is the government? And why is there a point where--while the rest of us schlubs are being equal--there's an upper class dictating what equal is? No one seems to mind? When it comes down to it, yes, I will help my fellow man. But in the end, I don't answer to my fellow man. My fellow man isn't going to be the one who carries on my lineage. Fellow man isn't always going to have my best interests at heart. And what point is there in even living if all your goal can be is to live a day to day life, equal to everyone else and in everyway possible? It's like just going through the paces of life because you have to, not because you want to. Why does this make no sense to anyone? I wish more people would take their communism studies a bit further than "it works on paper"...that old gag. Maybe even take a chance to look at communism, socialism or any form of collectivism, and weigh the pros and the cons. Let us know what you find. It should be easy with the hundreds of successful communist countries out there (and don't try to make capitalist-infused communism work either, like China).
16 :
Communism, in its purity, is a naive idea that is doomed to failure from its inception. The theory goes that the people own the land as a "community," with no private ownership of property whatsoever. This is supposedly to insure equality, regardless of inevitable inherent inequalities. The problem arises--and this is the reason why it never works--when this idea is implemented, someone has to be in charge to "regulate" the equality. The regulator of equality is, by definition, unequal to those whom he is regulating, and it therefore sets up an inevitable dictatorship. So true communism can never work, as it is an oxymoron in and of itself. China's communism has "worked" over the past 50 years because of its shrewd incorporation of capitalistic economic prinicples, which have enabled its survival in international trade. And if one were to look at the history of China's economy, you willl see that their economy and policies are slowly drifting toward a capitalist--and dare I say democratic--government.

Will an Alienware Laptop from Russia work in North America

Will an Alienware Laptop from Russia work in North America?
Alienware area 51M 7700 laptop comes from Russia, will it work here in Canada? Is there something different about one from Russia that would cause it to not function overseas?

you'll probably need a power adaptor. the ac power here in the usa is 110 volt 60 cycle. in europe it's 220 volt 50 cycle
3 :
There shouldn't be anything that keeps it from functioning on a hardware level (you'll need a different power adapter possibly), but unless you speak russian, you might have a hard time with the software until you can get the language switched to English. Honestly, I'd imagine with the freight and having to get it shipped overseas and the hassle of getting the language switched you'd be better off just buying one from closer to home.

lol Yes - in russia the outlets are round little dot looking things, instead of long bar ones like we have here. It will just need to be bought a new cord that can plug it into your canadian wall. Lol. but other than that it will work fine. Oh and dont worry about the voltage and power difference - it wont make any difference even if you go from canada to russia and switch to a higher voltage - but especially since youll be switching to 110 - which is lower than in russia - you will be fine
5 :
I'm not sure if the plugs/voltage in Russia would be different, but even if it is, you would only have to get an adapter. All of the other cords should be the same (just make sure that it has an ENGLISH version of windows in it :-) )
