There are no jobs! There are plenty of Russians looking for jobs because the economy is really bad where 90% of population are poor and 10% are rich (there's no middle class). Honestly, I would not recommend any US citizen to attend college there, unless you are loaded with money! US colleges are way better and a bit cheaper then in Russia!!!! I would recommend visiting because Russia is a beautiful country! I will be going there myself next summer!
2 :
What `re your talking about , who`re recommended it. All the Russians smart guys`re looking for a ways to get study in America or Europe . There`re all the different life, you`re have no idea. First of all you`d know Russian and have to read info and chats at Russian sites, and then I could discus with u. Good luck, honey !

CD's from Russia work in USA

CD's from Russia work in USA?
for the DVD market there are different regions where they will play in some countries, but not in others. Hence: a DVD from Canada will play in the USA, but it won't over in other countries. Are CD's the same way, or can I expect a CD from Russia (american artist) to play over here?

ya, only VHS' from Russia don't work here
2 :
Why not! They use the same equipment as we do - it's all made in China , right?
3 :
u have to own a regional player europe plays region 2 dvds go to amazon they r cheap and havnt been used i got mine there for 78 total whith ship and hand its worth it u can play movies from anywhere in the world they use the pals sytem in europe we use ntsc sytem but if its an import like something u buy at borders it will work only if it is directly from russia will u need a region player yes u can play cds on american cd players i have bought a few russian and german cds they work just the same as if u lived in russia
4 :
Great question. I don't necessarily have a complete answer, just speaking from experience. I've purchased CD's from abroad and never had any technical problems. However, I too have had problems playing DVD's and VHS videos.
5 :
CDs are the same. I grew up in the UK, and now live in Canada. The CDs I brought in the UK with me all work on equipment that I purchased here.
6 :
Yes, unless it's a bootleg of low quality or PC-burnt CD, which would not work on some older CD-players. It does not matter, from which country it is, but in Russia the percentage of low quality CDs is higher, that's all, but if you pay $ 4-5 for a CD that costs more than $ 12 here, that's what you get.

How would I go about moving to Russia from Texas

How would I go about moving to Russia from Texas?
I've looked at a ton of websites, but none of them really fit my exact situation. I am currently a history major planning on graduating in May 2007, and I would like to study or work in Russia for the sole purpose of learning the language. How can I find a legitimate job that doesn't already require me to know the Russian language? How would I find an apartment? I haven't been able to find any programs that will pay for me to live there while I learn the language, but is anyone else able to find something?

You want to move from Texas to Russia? ARE YOU CRAZY? It's cold and corrupt there!
2 :
Get your plane tickets, get some real estate, and read your rights.
3 :
Call or write the russian embassy in Washington D.C. and ask them about visa requirements in Russia. Also visit the state departments website for updated information on Americans visiting or living in Russia.
4 :
Well ... if you are a Christian you could contact Youth for Christ (I think they are based in Dallas) I know a friend of a friend who has been in Russia for over 5 years and has completely learned the language. He shares a one bedroom apartment that is very expensive (and no frills at all!) with a couple of local guys. I suppose though, that you would have to have a sponsor since you could not work in Russia. My boss is actually from Russia (I am from Texas but live in L.A.). He came here in 1976 and he has some amazing stories! I have always been fascinated with the place. My best friend has been twice .. . she needs to take me next time! Good Luck1
5 :
Perhaps you can find a job teaching English in Russia. I know some people move to Japan to teach English there. If you're religious you may be able to find work with a missionary organization. You'll be doing a lot of volunteer stuff as part of the organization, but they may be able to help you find a local job. If you've never been to Russia you may want to do this for a couple of weeks just to be sure a move to Russia is right for you. Contact the Russian embassy and see what they say.
6 :
Russia is not a very safe place, and especially for American citizens who are used to their civil rights!! There are no civil rights in Russia, and you can't file a lawsuit against anybody who steps on your toes. Also if you have not taken any Russian language classes you would be a very sorry Amerikanski, because you can't read the Cyrillic alpabet, and therefore can't get around. You can't read street signs and get lost in a very unpleasant locality. So please dear Amerikanski first learn some Russian and Cyrillic, and then perhaps try it as a visitor first.
7 :
I taught EFL for two years in Russia so I agree with KC. It's just about the only job a foreigner can do in Russia if they don't speak the language or work for an oil company. Any school you worked for would usually pay your visa, return flight, most give you an apartment and pay your rent and some pay your bills as well. The big schools in Russia I would say are English First, BKC and Language Link (Language Link even offer a work-study programme where you can teach less and pay reduced rate for intensive Russian lessons). You would need to gain a CELTA or Trinity certificate first though which is a 4, 8 or 12 week long course. Schools that would take you on without one of these are possibly cowboys who would treat you badly. There's a lot of anti-Russian sentiment among the other posts. I lived there and will be moving back there permanently soon. It's an amazing country with great people and any problems they do have are massively overblown by the western Press.
8 :
Are you sure, you will enjoy the cold weather. Are there no Russian Language classes at our Universities? Best of luck.
9 :
I've lived and worked in the country. I would agree with the ESL suggestion. Steer clear of the evangelists. They are not welcome in Russia these days and you'd be making life hard on yourself associating with them. There are summer camps that hire foreigners, too, sometimes in cool places like Lake Baikal. You also really really need to pick up some basic Russian before you go. You will be easy pickings if you can't manage even basic navigation of the culture and geography by yourself. Expect to be treated badly by the system (not the people, they're great), expect things to be foolish and illogical, expect everyone to be superstitious and most to be racist/anti-semitic, expect people to be well-educated but fabulously ignorant of the basic structure of a functioning country. Expect most to feel put upon by everyone else outside Russia and be completely enamored of their autocratic anti-democratic leadership. Dress to blend in. Take advantage of every chance to travel. Take a water filtration device. Have a fabulous time :-)

I wouldn't recommend it, since teachers get paid next to nothing in Russia. Also if you don't know the language, you'll run into a lot of trouble. Don't expect everyone to speak Thai or English. Moscow and St.Petersburg are pretty expensive, but those are also the places where you at least have a chance of getting a well paying job. Everywhere else your salary will be around 4000 rubles a month (about 130 dollars) and you will need a second job to support yourself. Also, they probably won't accept you without a degree ( unless maybe you work as a tutor)

Most definitely Japan. If a Uni graduate and high school graduate got an exactly the same job, high school graduate get paid around 10%~20% less than Uni graduate, and such differences are officially stated on company websites too. Going by the statistics, net primary enrollment rate for Russia in year 2005 was only 92%, while Japanese net enrollment rate for both primary and secondary schools had been 100%. Although, the gross enrollment ratio in Russia is higher than that of so that you can see highly educated adults in Russia tend to go back to college again to further extend their academic knowledge, while Japanese adults tend to stick with their final academic record they achieved back in early 20's or teen.

Do people in Russia work 12 hours a day

Do people in Russia work 12 hours a day?
I met a girl from Moscow, Russia on an international acquaintance site. She says she is a personnel director and works 12 hours a day. I like her but I do not know if I want to pursue this as she complains about being tired and limited time to write often. But still wants to be with me. Is a 12 hour work shift normal in Russia? I am a computer professional and manager with 15 years experience. From personal experience I work late during important times. I have only seen top level executives work extensively. A former girlfriend of mine was also personnel director so the position is not new to me but this excessive workload to me is strange. I find it excessive for middle management but not for a VP, CEO or Owner.

I suppose it is ok for busy carrier/ businesswoman. Same as here in the USA. That is how business is done.
2 :
She is probably paid by the hour, with the hours being "unlimited", the more she works the more money she can earn. By all means persue the relaqtionship, but realize it can't be real until you travel there (she can't get a visa without a very good reason, like marriage and you need to go to Russia to make this happen). In the mean time she must work to pay her bills, good luck.
3 :
They can. My ex lived a short distance from Moscow. She would wake up at 5am, and not be home until 8pm. She was always tired and grumpy, and never had time, only in the weekends if she had the energy. Moscow can drain the life out of you, even I have a pretty long workday and I live in the center and have a small commute. It is hard for us singles to find time to date, because we are always working and when we are not, we have no energy to go out and meet new people. It's not everyone, but many people I know.
4 :
Moscow very big city. You must give a lot of time on transport. For example, I give 4 hours a day to get to work and back home.
5 :
For an HR Director I would say it is normal, for any serious managerial position it is normal. For any person pursuing a serious career it is normal, in any country. But you're also free to choose - you may work 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the whole of your life, but please no big ambitions in this case. Normal working day in Russia is 8 hours, on Fridays 7 hours, 2 days weekend, 28 calendar days vacation.
6 :
It's not uncommon. It's commonplace.
7 :
I agree with Polynesia. The higher your responsibility, the longer hours you work plus counting the traveling time. In Moscow, whether you take the subway or drive, it's time consuming to reach other places. This long working hours is the case all over the world, for upper level management, not only in Russia. It's even worse in Japan, China and Korea. They literally work like dogs.

Does the situation ring any bells? 1959 & Castro takes over Cuba, flies in to the USA to meet Eisenhower and is refused an audience. Fast forward 3 years to 1962 and Castro is dealing with the Russians because the USA is stamping its feet like a sulky child that can't get its own way. Now Chavez is doing the same. He refused to sell oil to the USA at preferential rates, unlike his predecessors, and was immediately labelled a dictator and a commie. Now he is dealing with the Russians (and the Chinese don't forget) because he knows the idiot in charge in the White House won't do business. It's high time the US government learned that it cannot dictate to other nations who they trade with.

Hope this may answer your question or, shed light on the issue you just raised: First, the current anti-China and anti-Chinese campaign runs parallel with US and UK’s world I, II and Cold War propaganda. That propaganda for involving America in the bloodshed and hatreds of Europe–in World War I, World War II and the Cold War, was the same as that now being used to push and prepare the US public into a not distant war with China. To do that US has to rouse the public’s hatred and racial contempt for anything of China and of the Chinese. Second, the US and the UK have been suffering a bad image since the start of Iraq War. Their image is in a fast decline, especially in Europe. For Bush, landing on any of the Western European lands would trigger off a protest storm. Furthermore, this year is 5th anniversary of Iraqi Invasion. Therefore, to keep Bush from visiting West Europe is a top priority in order to keep the world away from Iraq. This explains as to why McCain traveled to Western Europe on Bush behalf----a precedent for a US president-nominee-to-be to campaign abroad. It also explains well as to why that Gordon Brown has visited US twice within a very short time.

That depends on what country in the West you are from. The answer is yes but its very limited and mostly related to the field of disabling nukes. Edit* you might think i'm correct but my American friend did work in the military helping them with nuke disposal in Russia for 2 years. He had to live in a village outside Chelyabinsk.
2 :
Russia has to defence itself, hasn't it? Or Who will defence Russia after all?
3 :
I believe that the first poster above is completely incorrect. In order to work in defence you would have to obtain a security clearance and in order to receive a security clearance you would have to be a citizen. If you are a researcher then you can work in a university and theoretically you can participate in research that has military applications, but you cannot work in an actual defence research laboratory.

They do. You just have to call your company and ask them to decode it for you before you leave.
2 :
Yes, depending on your carrier. Smart phones work in Russia and Ukraine. I have one that works in both. It is the Verizon Android Hero, it has a SIM card. You need to have a multiband phone(triband or quadband) to have it work. All of my ATT phones work because they were multiband with removable SIM cards, Sprint never worked because it is a PCS system. It is also very expensive to call, access the internet (you pay per minute and for the data) and even text with a Western phone. My advise would be to stop by any cell phone store and just buy a cheap phone there, any Ukrainian carrier company will be good. Beeline for example, or MTC. You can get a phone for about 20 dollars, 17 Euro. They'll set it up before you even leave the store. Then you just pay for minutes, all Russians and Ukrainians I know just buy minutes, their phones are pay for use phones, similar to a track phone in the US. With the cost for the phone and the minutes you buy, it is still cheaper than using your phone in Ukraine. The convienience of the use, is not reflected in the high cost of using your own phone. You even pay high rates for some random incoming text. Who needs that grief?
3 :
Yes but you have to unlock it if it is locked.
4 :
Yes your phone will work in Ukraine but advice is. Get your phone unlocked and then get a Kiev star or UMC sim card when you arrive in Ukraine or it will be very expensive to use
5 :
Do as Alexander advises. Buy a new phone or sim card for your phone. Kiev Star, UMC, MTC, Beeline are all acceptable. Even if you get a new sim card for your smartphone, you will still pay much to use it. Buy a cheap one as Alexander advised you and it will be better I think for you.

You have to UNLOCK the phone, and it will work with any sim. If you know anyone that knows how it would be best. It's not that hard, just google it. Try unlock.no.com. It may take a little while the first time, but after you figure it out u can do it in 15-20 Mins. If you don't already have the iPhone u can buy one that's already unlocked on ebay. MAKE SURE AFTER IT'S UNLOCKED NOT TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE ON iTunes when it asks if you want to. Good Luck:)

The Sidekick (or the Danger Hiptop as it's actually called, Sidekick is just the T-Mobile branding for the device) is a standard GSM phone, T-Mobile is not the only service provider to carry it, it can be unlocked for other providers also. All you need to do is obtain a SIM card from the company you wish to use for service and insert it into your Hiptop, and you'll be all set. However, the Sidekick can only be fully utilized with an unlimited data plan, without one you're going to be spending a lot of money in data charges for the web browser, email, instant messaging, etc.

Why is it that Communism did not work in Russia

Why is it that Communism did not work in Russia?
How was Communism in Russia as a developmental model proved ineffective?
Politics - 16 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Because communism never works...
2 :
2 reasons. #1, when you equalize income for every citizen, the average income is close to if not below the poverty level. #2, Why do a good job at work when you get paid the same thing no matter what? Also you didn't get to chose your job, so you probably have no interest in it.
3 :
Communism cant work on a national, state and sometimes even city level Human nature prevents it. It only works with a small group of people who can keep one another accountable. Example a tribe on an island could do communism because everyone knows everyone and somone slacks of the group is able to keep them accountable for pulling their weight. This is just simply not possible on a huge scale...especially Russias.
4 :
Same reason liberals tell you all socialist governments, socialist programs have never worked. The right people were not running those governments or programs.
5 :
i had this as a homework assignment before: on paper communism looks good you know equal income, therefore opportunities for all however, when this is actually applied, the equal income for all means all are poor, no one has any opportunity. the gov't owns the means of production, therefore only those in the elite gov't circle become rich. however, if human nature was truly non selfish, then communism will in theory work well. equality and all but as long as there is greed, communism will never work.
6 :
people tend to like freedom..
7 :
People got tired of living in poverty without the necessities of life!
8 :
Lots of reasons. Human nature being the biggest factor. Corruption in the party, never dealing with interest rates with the ruble, high taxes, big wasteful spending, dumping money and weapons around the world to support other communist movements.
9 :
The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power...
10 :
jews ran it.....http://www.jewwatch.com/jew-occupiedgovernments-USSR.html
11 :
The Russian system of communism was not true communism. Communism puts control back into the hands of the worker, but what happened after the Russian revolution is radical leaders sought power for themselves, so they implemented a different kind of communism where the government owned all the businesses. When the government was given all the power to control the worker, they started implementing programs like national quota's. The quota systems ruined the country, because sure you had 100,000 televisions...but none of them worked. They put quantity over quality. In a moderately socialist state the means of production lie in the hands of the workers. For example, labor unions. Labor unions make it so that the workers must be treated fairly and receive a fair wage for their work. If those demands are met, business goes on and prospers. Happy workers mean happy businesses. If communism goes in the wrong direction you end up with just a complete opposite of capitalism. Instead of having rich smucks own the means of production, everything is over-regulated.
12 :
communism requires government aggression. aggression is using force or coercion against non aggressive (peaceful) individuals. communism (and socialism) requires the government to use force to take property from one person under the guise of redistributing it to another. anytime a government uses aggression against it's own citizens it is bound to fail. liberty and justice require each other, and aggression suppresses both. without liberty and justice people are not efficient (competitive) and better systems arise.
13 :
Here is a MUST read for all students: The American socialist experiment http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0902/0902amsoc.htm This was written in Old English about 400 years ago. Quote: "--that the taking away of propertie, and bringing in communitie into a comone wealth would make them happy and florishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this comunitie (so farr as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontente, and retard much imployment that would have been to their benefite and comforte. For the yong-men that were most able and fitte for labour and service did repine that they should spend their time and streingth to worke for other mens wives and children, with out any recompense. The strong, or man of parts, had no more in divission of victails and cloaths, than he that was weake and not able to doe a quarter the other could; this was thought injustice. The aged and graver men to be ranked and equalised in labours, and victuals, cloaths, etc., with the meaner and younger sorte, thought it some indignite and disrespect unto them. And for men's wives to be commanded to doe service for other men, as dresing their meate, washing their cloaths, etc., they deemed it a kind of slavery, neither could many husbands well brooke it. "
14 :
-because it wasnt true communism and was a dictatorship
15 :
Because the government seized too much power, and people naturally aren't equal (realization helped along by government's over-reaching abilities). We're animals, just a little more sophisticated than all the other species, and 9 times out of 10, our animal instincts match humanity more often than our social ones do. The "works on paper" communism that the armchair philosophers around here love so much never seems to account for the fact that most people--by nature--don't want to be equal in every single way. And this..."each gave according to their abilities, and received according to their needs" (K. Marx)...are you kidding me? What in the world makes anyone think that they can get 6.5 billion, 300 million, or even a just a couple hundred people to make this work? And how can anyone think that it'd be wise to let someone else dictate what you're worth, especially when that other person is the government? And why is there a point where--while the rest of us schlubs are being equal--there's an upper class dictating what equal is? No one seems to mind? When it comes down to it, yes, I will help my fellow man. But in the end, I don't answer to my fellow man. My fellow man isn't going to be the one who carries on my lineage. Fellow man isn't always going to have my best interests at heart. And what point is there in even living if all your goal can be is to live a day to day life, equal to everyone else and in everyway possible? It's like just going through the paces of life because you have to, not because you want to. Why does this make no sense to anyone? I wish more people would take their communism studies a bit further than "it works on paper"...that old gag. Maybe even take a chance to look at communism, socialism or any form of collectivism, and weigh the pros and the cons. Let us know what you find. It should be easy with the hundreds of successful communist countries out there (and don't try to make capitalist-infused communism work either, like China).
16 :
Communism, in its purity, is a naive idea that is doomed to failure from its inception. The theory goes that the people own the land as a "community," with no private ownership of property whatsoever. This is supposedly to insure equality, regardless of inevitable inherent inequalities. The problem arises--and this is the reason why it never works--when this idea is implemented, someone has to be in charge to "regulate" the equality. The regulator of equality is, by definition, unequal to those whom he is regulating, and it therefore sets up an inevitable dictatorship. So true communism can never work, as it is an oxymoron in and of itself. China's communism has "worked" over the past 50 years because of its shrewd incorporation of capitalistic economic prinicples, which have enabled its survival in international trade. And if one were to look at the history of China's economy, you willl see that their economy and policies are slowly drifting toward a capitalist--and dare I say democratic--government.

Will an Alienware Laptop from Russia work in North America

you'll probably need a power adaptor. the ac power here in the usa is 110 volt 60 cycle. in europe it's 220 volt 50 cycle
3 :
There shouldn't be anything that keeps it from functioning on a hardware level (you'll need a different power adapter possibly), but unless you speak russian, you might have a hard time with the software until you can get the language switched to English. Honestly, I'd imagine with the freight and having to get it shipped overseas and the hassle of getting the language switched you'd be better off just buying one from closer to home.
4 :
lol Yes - in russia the outlets are round little dot looking things, instead of long bar ones like we have here. It will just need to be bought a new cord that can plug it into your canadian wall. Lol. but other than that it will work fine. Oh and dont worry about the voltage and power difference - it wont make any difference even if you go from canada to russia and switch to a higher voltage - but especially since youll be switching to 110 - which is lower than in russia - you will be fine
5 :
I'm not sure if the plugs/voltage in Russia would be different, but even if it is, you would only have to get an adapter. All of the other cords should be the same (just make sure that it has an ENGLISH version of windows in it :-) )

It essentially comes down to the way the countries were ruled. In Russia the leaders ruled with an iron fist and nobody dared question a philosophy that said people would give up their will, due to brute force, in exchange for some kind of security. For the Russian people it was better to do as they were told than face punishment. In England the way of life was very different. People were poor and would consider doing as they were told in exchange for security, but the government didn't rule by brute force, there was some element of free will. For that reason absolutism couldn't work.

I think an adapter would work, just be careful i have heard of adapters breaking things.
2 :
Aslong as you get the correct adapter then you will be safe, I wouldn't think that the power would be too much so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
3 :
Yes, its just that some of the games may not work.
4 :
Yes, it will work, but make sure adapter is хорошо cause if it malfunctions, ps3 умирает. It will work good for ps3 games on any HDTV. Also as far as I know Russia is an NTSC region. So it should work on standard TV's also. If it's capable of playing ps2 games, it won't work for them, because America and Russia are still in different ps2 regions, even though they're both NTSC. Swap magic might work if it's a 60gb ps3, but it's complicated to do. 220v is way too much power, it shouldn't even be possible to plug the US cord into the Russian 220v outlets, you need an adapter. It might be wiser to sell the US one and get a Russian one instead.

Convert Student visa to Work visa in Russia

Convert Student visa to Work visa in Russia?
I'm planning to take my CELTA course and certification in Moscow using a student visa. After I get a certification, can I just find English teacher work in Moscow and convert my student visa to work visa without leaving Russia? Or do I need to leave Russia to get my work visa? Thanks!
Russia - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes you will have to leave Russia. The issue of changing your visa is going to be an annoying process. If you have your student visa, it only allows you the opportunity to study in Russia and you could, in theory, just due private tutoring and stuff like that, but again, all unofficial. But once you want to work in Russia, you will have to find a company that is willing to sponsor you, they will have to get your visa prepared and then yes, you will have to leave the country. The problem is that Russia, like almost all other country, does not allow for 2 visas in someone's passport from the same country. What you could do is get a company to get you a visa invitation, then go to somewhere like Kiev, Tallin, Riga, Vilnius as they do not require a visa for Americans, spend a few days or however long you need, and then get your new Russian visa.
2 :
New rules limit foreigners working in Russia to 180 days annually out of a 365 day year. And those 180 days are broken into two 90 day periods, not back to back. So it's 90 days in, then 90 days out. Sure you want to give up a student visa? Here is the Russian embassy website on visas: http://www.russianconsulate.org/russian-visa.html

Why? Russia is not that good? Nobody said that Russia and Putin were bad on this website!
2 :
To apply to Canada's immigration programme, the first thing you need to do is scour www.cic.gc.ca - it's not a user-friendly website but it's all they've got. The basic concept for skilled workers such as yourself if that you need to find a job in Canada in your field while you are abroad (in either Russia or in Canada). You need to apply and, if you're accepted, then you start the work visa process from there. It's possible to get a work visa without getting a job in Canada first, but it's much more difficult. And lonelier :) Look at online job classified ads on Canadian websites. Canada's immigration system (for work visas) works on a point system - speaking English at a certain level (might want to take TOEFL) is worth many points, as is being a mechanical engineer. You might have a good chance of being accepted. The important thing is to follow the instructions on the website I've just mentioned to the letter - it's long and annoying but the only way to do it. I can't say anything about Moscow but the Canadian consulate in Ankara is highly unhelpful. Phoning them for advice will get you nowhere - you'll just hear a recording telling you to go to that website. Istanbul is filled with companies that will take $1000 from you to fill out the forms but not guarantee any results. They are mostly scams - be very, very careful before using any of them. Again I don't know about Moscow. Kolay gelsin :)

lol you don't want to work there. Life in Russia is low quality. Even with a university degree, most students earn about $200 to $300 per month.
3 :
1) you HAVE to speak Russian 2) OR to work in a multinational company back home if 1) is true then www.hh.ru www.expat.ru if 2) is true, then ask your bosses to send you to Russia at the EXPAT terms - this is THE best chance you can ever have p.s. the starting salary in Moscow is definitely not $200-300 but I'd say $800-$1,500 per month for an expat - times higher

First, learn Russian. At the same time, move your career into a major multinational corporation that works in both your country and in Russia. If you know Russian, and are fairly good at what you do, you should be able to a get transfer to operations in Russia. Once you’ve worked in Russia under the umbrella of the multinational for a couple years, you should have the life skills necessary to better shop around the Russian job market.
6 :
Learn to speak Russian or teach English in Russia and learn the language as you teach. But you really do need some background knowledge. Once you have this you could apply for whatever you want.

All laptops have removable hard drives. You simply need a screw driver, that's it. Watch just the first minute of this video. It will give you an idea of how easily it can be removed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNxBiIWBXUM
4 :
There are several approaches. My preferred approach is as follows: 1: Get whatever laptop you want and encrypt the whole disk with PGP whole disk encryption. 2: Get a USB portable drive, a terabyte will easily fit in your shirt pocket. Whole disk encrypt this also. 3: Load your applications on the main drive and your user files on the USB portable drive. 4: Use something like Windows washer to always wipe your temporary files on your laptop. 5:Your biggest risk of hack is while on line. Get the personal VPN below to encrypt your entire internet connection back to the USA or Europe. Nothing will be visible on any Russian network. This should do it for you.
5 :
If you're in a position that attracts that much attention from 'investigation' sources, then merely taking whatever countermeasures you can on the computer itself will probably not help. Hidden cameras, microphones and a hatfull of other spying methods will render your security merely an inconvenience. Take a laptop and carry it with you.

Most of Russian mobile operators are pre-paid, and getting a SIM card here is pretty straightforward. Any phone works, unles it’s locked on a specific provider. In that case you can either unlock it (which is risky and not too straightforward) or get yourself a pre-paid package (phone included) worth about $30 all in all. Those can be bought from one of the major operator stores: Megafon, Beeline & MTS. Or through any mobile retailer: Evroset, Svyaznoy and many more. Getting a pre-paid mobile phone in Russia is not a problem.

Do I need to pay any taxes in US if I live and work in Russia given that I'm a permanent resident in States

Do I need to pay any taxes in US if I live and work in Russia given that I'm a permanent resident in States?
I've heard that all US permanent residents have to pay taxes on their world-wide earnings, is that true? IRS website says it is. So I must pay Russian federal tax here and then US federal tax from the same earnings?

Yes, you need to file a US federal tax return. But you will be given credit for taxes paid in Russia. More importantly, if you stay out of the US for too long, you will lose your green card. BTW, not paying US taxes is good proof to the immigration officers that you are no longer resident in the US.
2 :
A US permanent resident (green card holders) that start working in another country lose his green card immediately. So when you start working in Russia you will not be a US permanent resident anymore, so no need to pay taxes to the US, obviously.
3 :
Yes, you need to report your earnings elsewhere if you are claiming to be a LPR. Hopefully you already knew this but if you are out of the country for more than 6 months and have not applied for travel document, I-131, you will lose your permanent resident status! There are some in the US who feel Russia, even after they became a democracy, is still the enemy. The Germans killed more Americans, but they are our friends now. Though we do not agree on everything. Would it be better to make Russia a friend or treat them as an enemy?

It is better to work with them, Cause Russia can spank us.
2 :
Third way. Work with Russia and against them depending upon our interests at the time.
3 :
Working with Russia, as the west did with Germany before the war won't stop Russia from acting like an enemy. By your logic, we should take the place over, run it for 10 years, and then set them on their way, like we did with Germany.
4 :
OF course it would be better to work with them. But that means they have to work with us as well. And that isn't happening. The Germans may have killed more Americans in WWII, but they weren't the antithesis and rival of America for the 50 years following it...your logic is terrible.
5 :
That is what is going on, Russia is rolling with the US and China is rolling with Iran. China gets most their oil from Iran. China is also making deals with Venezuela. we know where Germany stands on issues of politics and our national security - they aren't the ones arming venezuela (run by a notoriously anti-American regime) either. we never know where russia stands on any issue - one day they're our best comrades, the next they're puffing out their chests and demanding concessions from us.
9 :
Really? You think it's OUR choice? According to Russia, they ARE an enemy. What sort of "work with Russia" do you imagine would change that? There are some in the US who BELIEVE Russia when it SAYS it is still the enemy. It would it be best to CONTINUE offering Russia friendship while not PRETENDING they've already accepted it.
10 :
Sure. That's what Chamberlain did with Hitler. Brought "Peace in our time", for a few months.
11 :
:))) There is no illusions that Russia will always be an enemy for the western countries. It is not because Russia is the main part of former USSR. Such situation started many years before. Western countries always are afraid of Russia, since 17-19 centuries, from Peter the Great, Suvorov and Kutuzov. Long live Russia and its the best allies - Army and Fleet!
12 :
It's better to work with them. the USA isn't going to be an invincible stronghold for much longer
13 :
It's best to do whatever dis-empowers the corpo-thugs working the military industrial complex. I can't help but think our president is a front man, since our government has become such an effective front for organized crime (on both sides from bottom to top). However, when he makes moves away from the MIC it is a very good thing. Republicans give our corrupted government way too much credit in its handling of foreign policy and war. Corruption breeds corruption and its been building up for decades in our system. President Obama didn't bring it in; the media-thugs just want it to look that way so the bigwig criminals on top can keep getting away with murder.

Any recommendations on finding work in Russia

Any recommendations on finding work in Russia?
I'll most likely be in Russia this summer studying from June - August. I've been to Russia before, and thus want to make the most out of my summer. Do you have any ideas on what I could do? Any way of finding internships that would let me work from mid-August to mid-September (translating would be ideal...). I'm open to any suggestions whatsoever. If it resorts to it, I may just stay in a Moscow hostel for a month or something. I just want to be in Russia for as long as possible. Thanks!

Which languages can you translate, e.g. from Mandarin to Russian, from English to Russian. etc.? Do you have experience in working as a translator? It does not mean just because one knows the language that you are qualified to be a translator. You can however give private lessons in English or tutoring kids from rich families. Unless you have a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language, you could not apply in English Language Schools. But since there is not enough time to secure you a work permit, you most likely would be working undeclared. If you work as a tutor, nobody would bother you much about work permits, but if you are with a bonafide school, it's a different story.
2 :
Try site http://hh.ru/
3 :
There are many highly qualified translators in Moscow and even with a tefl/celta teaching certificate, a language school is very unlikely to employ you for such a short period. You could approach foreign companies for an internship, but it's honestly going to be near impossible to find a company that would be willing to pay more than your metro ticket. Maybe post your services on expat.ru (employment/resumes section).
4 :
1. Try site http://rabota.mail.ru/ 2. To be an English teacher.
5 :
You can make some cash being an English tutor. Most parents will pay more if the person is a native speaker. You can try to search for some agencies, and than make your own contacts, i.e. friends of friends. A lot of the time it would involve you just chatting to the kid in English for an hour or so, maybe reading a kids' book together, but as experience of speaking English to a real person is far more helpful than repeating vocab words, the benefits of you will be crystal clear.

How did serfdom in Russia work as a system and who controlled it

How did serfdom in Russia work as a system and who controlled it?

1 :
The 'Landowner' had ownership of the serfs living on his land. He was supposed to control and manage them, almost like livestock. Reading - 'Dead Souls', Nikolai Gogol
2 :
It was a form of control of the poor working class by the aristocracy and upper classes. The serfs essentially were condemned to a life of grueling work with no possibility of advancement in life. They were basically slaves of the landowner they served. The serfs also provided the backbone of the military, once conscripted they were required to serve for 25 years, although most never came close to surviving to be allowed to return to civilian life.

How are foreigners attempting to live and work in Russia regarded

How are foreigners attempting to live and work in Russia regarded?
I love Russian language and culture. I think they have the best poetry and literature. How are foreigners who attempt to assimilate into Russia regarded by the general populace?

Similar to America. If you look similar, and speak the language, then you should be OK.

I know only foreigners from ex soviet republics so they assimilate well. Especially from Ukraine and Belorussia but their language and culture similar to Russian. As for my aquintance from South republics of ex USSR they all during USSR learned Russian and culturally similar or close to Russian. I think that in first you have to know language well and in second you have to have a good job. I mean a good salary of cause because without background (parents, aquintance, friends) you`ll spend a lot of money to things that local people never do. For example, your computer( car, water tap) became broken and your aquintence can help you but if you are full stranger nobody helps you. even if you are Russian in enother regigon it is hard to live without friends, or samebody who can help you. also look at tgis http://russiaclub.info/forum5.html

first, a teacher earns about $400 in a city of 100,000 people. i am american, i speak POORLY in russian. i can ask for anything in the shops with the vocabulary i have and understand prices and change, and more. i can not really easily converse. the russian people i know, many in our city, will stop if not busy and talk with me as they do any acquaintance, up to 20 minutes and not even notice time. a few friends speak english and we can talk in english. i don't work during the half year we stay with my wife's family, but probably could. still wages are low unless you are specialised- like oil field. or a lawyer. or a businessman. many people likely don't realise i am not russian until i open my mouth. many times a car will stop and ask me for an address. sometimes with success as well as not.

That will depend were u from, where you plan to live: in big cities like Moscow most foreigners will be ok...in small villages it will be very hard to assimilate and in most cases impossible. Also will depend what kind of people will surround you (I mean level of education which play huge role in Russia). In general majority Russian people LOVE foreigners from Europe and USA especially if they truly respect Russian culture and customs and will help them fill comfortable and at home ( however exception do exist) For foreigners from India and Africa it`s been a bit harder to assimilate (probably because they look different... dark skin is still smth unusual for Russia, especially in small towns and villages...

Would a game ordered from Russia work on a Vista home premium

Would a game ordered from Russia work on a Vista home premium?
I'm considering ordering "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat" from Russia because translation generally takes away from a game and I think I would prefer it in Russian. So would it work if I tried to install it on my vista home premium?

What were the factors that helped/did not help the Provisional Government in Russia work

What were the factors that helped/did not help the Provisional Government in Russia work?
What factors were there that helped/did not help the Provisional Government(set up after 1917 feb revolution) in Russia to work? (ie: didn't help - refused demands of peasants/soldiers etc) thanks for any help

The four features that really hamstrung the Provisional Government were: The establishment of the Petrograd Soviet (a council of worker's, sailor's and soldier's deputies) that was composed of socialist parties - notably, the Mensheviks, Left Socialist Revolutionaries and the Bolsheviks). This organisation held "Dual Power" with the Provisional Government and represented an alternative source of authority and political leadership. Russia's involvement in the war, especially after the failure of the July Offensive, this compounded many Russian's concerns about the war - Russia was doing very badly in the war and many wanted Russia to withdraw from the fighting. The land issue, many peasants wanted to own the land where they worked. They hoped that the Provisional Government would give them the land - it didn't, and many land owning aristocrats were still taking rents. Hunger, the Provisional Government failed to ensure that food supplies to the cities were maintained. Millions of peasants were now in the army and crops were not sowed or harvested. On top of this, the chaotic situation in the countryside saw the food distribution systems breakdown. Lack of legitimacy, this was possibly the Provisional Government's biggest problem. The government was mostly composed of the deputies from the last Tsarist State Duma, and, as such, had not been elected to office since the February Revolution. The Petrograd Soviet was elected - by workers, sailors and soldiers so was seen as a genuinely democratic institution. To make matters worse for the government the Bolsheviks began to call for elections to a Constituent Assembly - a new government for Russia. The government refused these elections until after WWI was over. Can a woman on a visitors visa from Russia work in USA

Can a woman on a visitors visa from Russia work in USA?
They will not give us Marriage visa because I am on disability but if she is working we will be able to get married.I know she must return to russia every six months to renew visitors visa but what can she do to try and get work?

No, anyone on a visitor's visa cannot legally work in the USA. And she can only stay six months, leave briefly and come back for another six months if immigration allows her to. There is no guarantee that she can return after a six month visit. If she's been denied an immigrant visa, this is something she may appeal. A lot depends on *her* ability to work. Living without being employed for six months at a time in the USA does not indicate her ability to work. Working overseas does indicate her ability to work, but she has to actually work overseas. This puts you between a legal hard place and a practical rock. I suspect she's been already denied an immigrant visa under 214(b) because you're on disability. If so, she may also be denied entry as a B-2 visitor because she's already demonstrated intent to live in the USA. Lots of variables and "what ifs" here. Since you may not be able to afford an attorney, the next best help could be Catholic Charities who are knowledgeable about immigration issues. Good luck.
2 :
No. No one on a visitor's visa can work. It is also likely that she will not be allowed into the US as ICE will think that she will marry you anyway and will overstay.
3 :
No, she cannot work on a visitor's visa and apparently you do not earn enough to be financially responsible for her here. Your only option would be for you to join her in Russia. She would be able to get a job there and if you can continue to receive your disability checks there, then you both could live fairly well in her country. Best of luck.
4 :
She cannot legally work on a Visitor's visa. If she is in the USA and you decided to get married, she does not need to go abroad and apply for a visa. You can apply for a process called "adjustment of status" (Green Card). Yes, you must be able to sponsor her (show that your income is at least above federal poverty guidelines).
5 :
NO, SHE CANNOT WORK IN THE USA WITH AN TOURIST VISA.

How would my cell phone plan work in Russia

How would my cell phone plan work in Russia?
I currently have a Verizon cell phone here in the US (Idaho) but in September I am moving to Moscow City, Russia to nanny for a family. I will be there anywhere from 6 months to two years, and I was wondering how the cell phone thing would work. Will my Verizon phone even work in Russia? I can't go out of the country without being able to keep in contact with my friends and family, but would I have to buy a cell phone plan there, or will this one still work there? Thanks!

Your phone will not work in Russia. You would not want it to. Using a US phone and a US plan in another country would cost more than a fortune. International calling is expensive whatever you use. Buy a notebook computer or netbook and plan on using email.
