going overseas to work. will be 1099. Will pay taxes in Russia. Do I need to pay in the US as well

going overseas to work. will be 1099. Will pay taxes in Russia. Do I need to pay in the US as well?
will be paid by an American company. Coming back to the US every three months for two weeks. Will I be taxed twice? once in the US and once in Russia?? How does it work?
Other - Taxes - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Several issues here: 1st. US citizens are taxed on their world-wide income. 2nd. US citizens may take a credit for taxes paid to other jurisdictions (e.g. Russia - you'll need to research this or discuss with a CPA specializing in EXPATRIATE taxes.) 3rd. HUGE BENEFIT AVAILABLE TO YOU. Make sure you stay out of the US for at least 330 days in the next 365. (Go to Europe or Canada or Mexico or whereever, but stay out of the US for 330 days.) By doing so, you'll have the first $90,000+ income tax exempt. Talk to an EXPAT CPA.
2 :
If you will be returning every 3 months for 2 weeks, you will not meet the physical presence test for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. That requires you to be physically present in one or more foreign countries for 330 days out of a full 12 month period. You will be physically present for less than 309 days so you are not eligible for that benefit. You can take a credit for any foreign income taxes paid using form 1116. That will reduce your US tax liability by at least what you would have paid in US taxes on the income. Since you will be working as self-employed, you must pay self-employment tax on the income that you are receiving. You'll file Schedule C to report the income and any business expenses and Schedule SE to calculate the self-employment tax. Form 1116 will reduce your income taxes but will NOT reduce the self-employment tax. You will need to make quarterly estimated tax payments using Form 1040-ES to cover your projected tax liability for the year. It would be a good idea to consult with an expert in expat taxation to properly estimate your US tax liability and make the necessary tax payments on time.

How does the open border agreement in the EU work in countries that border non-EU states, such as Russia

How does the open border agreement in the EU work in countries that border non-EU states, such as Russia?
For example, is there control on the side bordering a non-EU state? Or is the border control that of the country that is non-EU?

There is a normal border between a EU and a non EU state, with customs and passport control on both sides. The fact that one of the country is a EU member doesn't change anything to the way the border is held on both sides.

My uncles work overseas and they claim that they dont pay any taxes. Is there any case this is true

My uncles work overseas and they claim that they dont pay any taxes. Is there any case this is true?
My uncles work overseas and they claim that they do not pay any taxes on earned income, as long as they stay out of the countrey 330 consecutive days. Is this true? They have worked in South America, Russia, Haiti,Marshall Islands etc..
United States - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You can read up on what they are talking about by looking at IRS publication 54. It's not 330 consecutive days, but 330 days out one year living in a foreign country. (The year doesn't have to be 1/1 to 12/31.) Not only must they be outside of the US, but they must actually be somewhere else. Not Antartica, not the ocean, not an oil rig, etc. Keep in mind, they still file taxes and if their income is more than the exclusion, any additional income is taxed starting at 25%. Plus these other countries are charging them income tax.
2 :
Yes it is true i'm working overseas since 13 years and have never paid taxes during this time, but it only works on a expatriate contract if i would work on a local contract i had to pay taxes.
3 :
It could very well be true if they are referring to US income tax. They still have to pay taxes to whatever country they worked in, though, so as to not paying any taxes whatsoever- that wouldn't be correct.

If the company which hired her does not pay for her transportation from her country to the city of her new job, she might not have a legitimate job here. There are "body shops" which get H1-b visas (illegally and/or fraudulently, it should be noted), make the people pay their way here, and then they are "benched" and unpaid until the body shop finds a company to contract that worker. There is no way anyone other than the employer or employee can or will pay for the transportation -- laws against "trafficking," "transporting," etc. If she thinks it is a legitimate job, she has to get her own ticket. But she should seriously reconsider this "job offer" and "visa." These are questionable circumstances.

It didn't work.
3 :
Uhm, it didn't. The USSR collapsed because it was so inefficient and resulted in shoddy buildings, shortages of everything people need and tons of corruption. They also killed tens of millions of people. Same with China. China's growing now because it's turned into a mix of capitalism and communism, with capitalism directed by the totalitarian government. But they still put you in the gulag if you question them. It's still a bad place to live
4 :
A couple of things, actually. All the misery that was associated with the Great Depression practically disappeared and was turned into patriotism when Japan attacked. Many of the un-employed were drafted into the military, thus there was no need for a revolution. The communists were already a huge faction in Russia and China when they took over during wartime. The Russian government was about a month old when it was taken over by the communists. The Chinese government was on the run from the Japanese too.
5 :
Communism worked in neither country. While still claiming to be a communist nation, China has for a long time been switching to a market based economy. China now has what is basically a capitalist economic system.
6 :
Mostly because of the fact that USA lets people vote. It is not popular so only countries that have a dictator can make pure communism work. They PRETEND to be democratic, and say that it is part of communism system. But that is all lies. Most people will chose a free economy if given a choice. This does not mean the communism is all bad or capitalism all good. It just has to do with human nature. Most people are stupid so giving them the vote is very dangerous and may work or may not work. USA also lies to its people (voters) but tells different lies. Nobody really knows if there is a better system or not. Both seem to have major flaws. Like most things, it may be that a blend of the best of each that may be the answer. We will probably never know.
7 :
Keep in mind that in both cases the communist party didn't come to power until after a civil war had been fought. The Russian Revolution of 1917 saw the overthrow of the Czar' Government. It was then followed by the Russian Civil War, 1917 to 1923 with the core period being 1918 to 1921. The Russian Civil War resulted in the communist Bolsheviks becoming the dominant power in Russia. This brought Lenin to power, and his death in 1924 brought Stalin to power. Stalin's dictatorship is what made communism "work" for so long, the premiers after him were able to keep it going for thirty years more. Millions died because of Stalin and his policies. The Communists came to power during the Chinese Civil War in 1949 after more than twenty years of fighting (WWII put a temporay hold on the war) and it would be a year before major hostilities on the mainland ended. This saw Mao Zedong come to power. Just like Stalin, millions died because of Chairman Mao and his policies. Basically communism "worked" because it was forced on you. when given the choice, ultimately it doesn't work. That's why it doesn't work in a country like the US where the people have a choice, which they are supposed to be able to do through voting.
8 :
To understand Russia's and China's Communism, one must understand their history PRIOR to Communism. Napoleon's French invasion of Russia in 1812. Followed up by the retaliation War of the Sixth Coalition. The Decembrist revolt of 1825. 1855 the Crimean War. 1877–78 the Russo-Turkish War. Alexander II was killed in 1881 by revolutionary terrorists. The Russo–Japanese War of 1904. Bloody Sunday massacre in January 1905. The Russian Revolution of 1905. In 1914 Russia entered World War I . The February Revolution of 1917, forced Nicholas II to abdicate; he and his family were imprisoned. They were later executed during the Russian Civil War. Finally, the October Revolution, led by Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin, overthrew the Government and then we have Communism. Russia had been in absolutely pitiful shape under their last monarchy, while they lived in obscenely opulent wealth their people lived in poverty stricken hungry desperation from over a 100 years of nothing but war. During WWI Russian soldiers watched from horseback as the Western world rolled on to the battle field with their mechanized infantries. The American, French and British soldiers went home to their cars and telephones while Russians went back to their Medieval villages and wagons. As China opened up to foreign trade and missionary activity, opium produced by British India was forced onto Qing China. Two Opium Wars with Britain weakened China greatly. European imperialism proved to be disastrous for them. The Taiping Civil War, which lasted from 1851 to 1862. Costing at least 20 million lives (more than the total number of fatalities in the First World War), with some estimates of up to two hundred million. Other costly rebellions followed the Taiping Rebellion. The Punti-Hakka Clan Wars (1855–67). The Nien Rebellion (1851–1868). The Muslim Rebellion (1862–77). The Panthay Rebellion (1856–1873). The Miao Rebellion (1854–73) Millions dead. Disastrous results for the economy. The flow of British opium continued. The famine in 1876–79 claimed between 9 and 13 million lives in northern China. From 108 BC to 1911 China experienced 1,828 famines. or one per year, somewhere in the empire.[38] While China was wracked by continuous war, Japan succeeded in rapidly modernizing its military and set its sights on Korea and Manchuria. The ill-fated 1900 Boxer Rebellion against westerners in Beijing. Mass civil disorder. Two year old Puyi became emperor of China. 1912, the Republic of China 1916, China was politically fragmented. 1920s, the Kuomintang, under Chiang Kai-shek The Sino-Japanese War of 1937–1945 Japanese Invasion. WWII. Chinese Civil War. Both Russian and China had been brutally beaten on for over 100 yearsstraightt. Both Russia and China had been historically separatists. Both had greatly suffered under worthless monarchs that lived in obscene wealth while their people lived in the MIddle Ages. They both had been brutally assaulted by their next door neighbors.... and abused. Western civilization had only shown themsubjugatedd Imperialism proposed at the end of a gun. The Americans, the British, the French .... would have just moved in and taken over like they did in Indo-China, India, thePhilippiness, Hong Kong. They were both way too fragmented for Democracy and had no internal financial business to support a democracy. They were too large for a dictatorship. They could trust no one but themselves .... and for very good reason. It worked initally because it evened out the resources, gave the population some hope of survival, gave them one set of rules without church or foriegn interferance, it put the kids in school, workers in the fields and factories, and a loaf of bread on the table, gave them a common goal and more equality than either country ever had before. As much as the free world loathess it, Communism SAVED Russia and China. Unfortunately, Communism doesn't work for very long. But it took them both a while to admit this fact and both have been working very quietly pursuing a trade market and outside commerce for quite some time. Still .....
9 :
I think it needs to be reiterated…Communism has never worked in any country that has ever tried it. The Soviet Union and the Peoples Republic of China imposed their versions of the Communist command economy on their people as long as they could with an excessively harsh police state. Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union still collapsed. China and Vietnam discarded the command economy for a modified free market economy while still imposing the police state on their citizens.

What would their jobs be, if not tennis ? Have you ever asked yourself this question about the top 10 players?
For Hollywood actors/actresses, you know what jobs they had before, since most of them started later in life to act. Most of them were waiters/waitereses. What about tennis players ? I could guess 4 female players. Maresmo probabily would have been working in bar/resturant since she owns some in France & likes these business. Kim would probably be still in sport, since she came from a sporty family. The William sisters would probably work government jobs. The Russian players (Sharapova, Petrova, Kuznetsova, Myskina..etc) would probably be in Russia working in service sector jobs like store clercks/waitresses or accountants for small companies or banks. Dementieva would be a school teacher like her mother. What do you think ? Just quess! lol

Start by looking for available jobs at http://www.careercenter.ru/. How is your Russian? Your ability to drive, navigate public transportation, shop in supermarkets, etc, will be heavily influenced by being able to understand Cyrillic signs and speak the language. Most jobs, outside of being an Embassy guard, require skills in Russian language. Being in the military as you are, perhaps you can get some language training if you don't have it already. Russia has new Visa rules for foreigners, you may live in Russia only 180 days annually, no more than 90 days consecutively.

Russia is wonderful! I went last November. I was in Moscow and St. Petersburg just as a tourist so while I don't know much about the schools or jobs, it was amazing to visit. The older people seem to have a seriousness that I believe communism entrenched over the years, but the young people are very vibrant. I never felt like there was a mob presence, though I was just at the tourist sights. I would advise you to stay out of the way of the police though - they have been known to hassle people. Oh... The language barrier is rough. Learn the Russian alphabet before going - it'll make things a whole lot easier. Also, don't pay attention to maps or guide books that do not list the names of things in the cyrillic russian alphabet - because they won't help once you're there, as those spellings aren't used! Make sure you have your Russian Visa (and register it once you get there) and have a great time!

So, do you want a native's perspective? If you go to Moscow or St Pete's as a tourist, you would probably like it, provided that you are a city person. The prices might be a little disturbing though. Sadly, oustide of Moscow and St Pete's, Russia is still half a century behind the civilized world. I've never met any mafia people :-) Well-paid jobs can only be found in the capital (average salary in my hometown - 600,000 ppl - is $300 a month). Schools... well, they are worse than they used to be, but still fairly decent. As for higher education, I can only tell about that in Linguistics; we are good at theory and not half as good at practice. Hope this helps.

I worked for them many years ago. The company wasn't the best run, but it wasn't bad either, if you were mature enough just to get on with teaching (they didn't interfere much). I say that as I wasn't so mature at the time but luckily my slightly older colleague who knew Russia much better was, and helped me get my head out of my arse; as a result I had a good time in the end, and I still think back to my couple of years with great fondness. I say all of this because there are two things you need to consider: more than Language Link overall: will you like living in Russia (and a lot can't, for a variety of reasons, while some for some it becomes home) and what is the management like at the local school. Living in Russia can be a little scary at first, as they do things "differently" there. Doing things differently is a way of keeping ahead of other people through confusing them. This goes for Russians working with Russians. Some people cannot deal with this, and so will put up complaints about conditions and the torments they had to suffer. Russia is not a leisure centre, and you don't go there to luxuriate. Read their comments carefully in case they're just people who wouldn't have been happy anywhere in Russia. As for what you've read about the school itself (and particularly the branches, which is more important than the centre), look for things like being paid on time, being asked to move arbitrarily, managers being indifferent to housing problems (cockroaches don't count - everyone has them) and the extent to which the manager may be messing with people's heads in order to preserve his/her own authority (Russians actually have a word for this: volyuntarizm). Perhaps I make Russia sound like a nightmare. It isn't. It's a country of positive and negative extremes, which is why people fall in love with it.

Which part of the 1900s? In the early years, 1900 - 1918, the country was ruled by the Czar, a monarch with dictatorial powers. Right at the end of WWI, The Bolshevik Revolution took place, and the political system really didn't change too much. Lenin, then Stalin took over and also ruled dictatorially. This worked really well during WWII, as dictatorships are much more efficient than democracies, not better, just more efficient since nobody debates or votes. The economy of Russia was horrible from the beginning. Stalin's five year plans did nothing to help, and radical spending on the military kept the country bankrupt. The economic situation never did improve. In the 1980's, because of the economic woes, the communistic government/economy fell. Today, there is a limited form of democracy, but the people are still poor and the government is starting to spend more and more on the military.

It's not a very good bargain. Russia gets to reclaim its entire Cold War sphere of influence, and in return we get help stopping a state on the verge of collapse from doing something it doesn't have the power to do anyway. Turning our backs on the Eastern European democracies is a good way of convincing future potential partners that we can't be relied upon.
3 :
Ha! Their not, even if they say they will, they just can't wait to get into Iraq. Didn't Russia just sell 5 S-300systems to Iran and deny it, since when can we believe a word they say.
4 :
Russia has nothing but Islamic countries on its southern borders. She is, as always, acting in her own self-interest. That Russia can get the proposed missile shield dropped is only icing on her cake.
5 :
They aren't. They make a promise in return for actual results from the other side. The promise WAS their end of the bargain. They needn't actually do it and they won't. That's how Democrats negotiate. (if they were here, they'd be Democrats - that isn't even a debatable point)
6 :
they aren't going to stop iran from doing anything!!! they will sell technology to iran and make billions, and when their nuclear weapon program gets wiped out oil will hit the roof and russia will again make billions!!!

how to get work permit in russia

how to get work permit in russia?

Russia - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
To work in Russia you need to obtain a work permit based on your visa. It is easiest if your employer requests the permit for you. Doing it yourself requires the services of an attorney, which can be quite expensive. Another alternative is to register as a private entrepreneur. Once a Russian business offers a foreign citizen a permanent job, the work permit can be issued. Work permits require the approval of the Federal Migration Service. If you change your job, you may keep the work permit obtained by your previous employer, if it still has at least 3 months until the expiry date. The employer in Russia must obtain the work permit before the employee arrives in Russia. The company needs to demonstrate that your work cannot be done by a Russian. The process of obtaining a permit from the city employment office can be difficult. Working as a private entrepreneur in Russia Another option is to register as a private entrepreneur. Eventually you’ll be able to apply for permanent residency, which will allow you to have the same rights as Russian citizens. Proceed with caution, as although it’s been done, creating a business can be difficult without knowing the language or the country well. In this case you will probably need the services of law firms with English (French, German, etc.) speaking attorneys which can be quite expensive. The whole procedure for setting up a business can take about 2-3 months. Employees that don’t need a work permit Some employees (lucky!) do not need work permits. (a) Temporary and permanent residents. (However, if you think it is a good way to get around the work permit rule, it's not so, because it's longer more complicated to get a permit of staying in Russia - see information in Temporary and Permanent Residence section below) (b) Students, teachers. (Different rules apply to them - to be clarified with the inviting university or edudational institution) (c) Dimplomats, representatives of international organisations (different rules apply). http://www.justlanded.com/english/Russia/Tools/Just-Landed-Guide/Visas-Permits/Work-Permits http://www.waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/Status.html So, What to Do? The best and the most legal way is to officially get a work permit for yourself through the employer (note, that this employer should also have a permission to employ foreign citizens). You may also become a temporary or permanent resident. This process is long and complicated, but that is certainly a possibility. Another way is to arrange that a certain staff leasing company employs you and then leases you to the company you really want to work with. It is highly probably that a professional staff leasing company will already know the process of getting a work permit for a foreign citizen, and if this is done once, then, as the law states, you can change the employer easily, without losing your work permit The following personal documents are required to obtain work permit: 1. Passport copies of a foreign employee's and each family member's passports. Passports should be valid no less than for 6 months. 2. Copy of Certificate proving the foreign employee's professional education, obtained in the foreign state or equivalence of such a document to a Russian certificate of the professional education. 3. Medical examination by a registered physician in a Russian State clinic certifying that the applicant is free of tuberculosis, leprosy, HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and genital chancres. For those persons applying for a Residence Permit in Moscow, an additional test certifying a negative result for the presence of narcotics is also required. Medical Certificates cannot be issued for more than 90 days from the exam date. 4. 2 photographs 3x4 (mat, colour) of the employee and each family member; 5. Notarised copy of the spouse's Marriage Certificate. 6. Notarised copy of each child's birth certificate with names of both parent's evidenced. http://www.alloexpat.com/russia_expat_forum/work-permit-in-russia-russia-work-visa-t525.html

what the world wants from Russia and Iran

what the world wants from Russia and Iran ?
Russia must learn how capitalism works. Russia has not wanted the US's capitalism in its behind garden. but, Russia has not powerful capitalism as much as the US. Soviet Union had destroyed capitalist class in Russia, called " gulag". on the other hand, Caucasian countries have seen what the US has. therefore, Russia has to do compromise with the US. Also, Abdullah Gül who is president of Turkey, has visited iran. Hillary Clinton also gave sign for iran. now, Turkey is mediator between iran and the US. at the future, the US and iran may be friend as a result, moderate muslim model has begun to disappear, diplomacy has begun as idealist, rational, fair and open. do you agree or disagree ?

Is today working day in Russia? Isn't it Saturday? will you have Sunday to work too?
Is it because of Christmas Eve and day? So now you have to work 7 days without weekend? Is the same going to happen on Old New Year? do you like it? I would hate it. In the USA, if a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, usually we get Friday or Monday off. If it falls on weekday, we are off that day but weekend remains as off time. I judge it upon channel 1 I tuned in. I see weekday program. Not Saturday, was looking forward to "умницы и умники"

If Hitler had kept his work and not attacked Russia. Could the Allies have won the war?
Sitting around here in Afghanistan a few of us got into this debate. During the fiercest fighting of operation Barbarossa on the Russian front Germany had 41 Divisions on the Russian Front. If those Divisions had been able to fight elsewhere could the Allies have won? Dang Bronwen you have a wonderful brain. You made most of the same points I did. Thanks. Best answer so far.

It also depends on whether the Japanese had bombed pearl harbor.
2 :
Yes. The allies were better equipped and still had better numbers. If Hitler had not attacked Russia, it would only have taken longer for the Allies to win. It was unavoidable.
3 :
If wishes were kisses, I would have a face full. Hitler intended to take over the western world. He made lots of false promises. So, speculation is just that - speculation.
4 :
It depends. Better tactics and strategy could always win a battle, with technology and equipment as second factors. Even if the Allies were better-equipped, German divisions could have won a decisive victory over the Allies if it was led by a competent leader with precise coordination and timing of attacks.
5 :
Hitler was doom to have that happen to him when somebody or anybody wants to rule anything or everything well you can't .i don't have a religion but i do believe in God and God rules everything.
6 :
I don't think so. If Hitler had not opened up another front by attacking Russia, he would have eventually captured England. He could have just used all his resources in bringing the English to their knees. Churchill was very adamant that the English would continue to fight, from bases in Canada if necessary, but the reality is that it's a long way from Canada to England, and once England was captured and subdued, there would have been no real staging area for the Allies to launch a land assault on mainland Europe. Had Hitler controlled England, he would also have controlled the Straits of Gibraltar, and all Atlantic approaches to North Africa. There would have been no way to resupply troops in North Africa, or to stop the Germans from completely taking over there. With the Mediterranean closed to the Allies, there would have been no way to stage attacks on Italy. All of Hitler's generals, or at least the vast majority of them, told him that it was suicide to open up fighting on two fronts. I think we tend to forget that the German Army was run by extremely competent men who had spent their entire lives studying tactics and waging war. If he had listened to them, the Allies would have been in a lot of trouble. Lucky for us, though the commanders knew what they were doing, their supreme commander was wandering around smelling daisies and worrying about other stuff. Had he paid attention, Americans would still be Americans, but Europe would be a vastly different place.
7 :
The answer is NO! He hated the Russians more than the Allies. He was going after them, no matter what happened to the Western Front. He wanted a stalemate in the west, who he believe and rightly so, that the West would be able to defeat him. What he didn't want, was the American involvement into WWII. WE DON'T BACK DOWN, PERIOD! Plus, we didn't declare war on Germany, until they declared war on us first. We declared war on one of Germany's allies first. Which was the Empire of Japan. Technically, the war started in 1939, unless you go back further to when Japan invaded China and that was 1936 (?). We didn't get into it, until after December 7, 1941. Stalin wanted the pact with Hitler, so he could build-up Russia's war machine. He didn't get the time to do that properly. If you were to look at the timelines, you can figure out what happened after the U. S. got into the war. Because, we were already prepared for war. Technically!
8 :
Very unlikely. If England fell, all of the Commonwealth would have been compromised including Canada. It was his stupidity in turning on Russia that cost him the war. Up until Aug/ '41, the American people were against the European war.FDR , with some of his top aides especially Lt. Comm. Arthur H. McCollum. He proposed an 8 step plan to provoke Japan into attacking Pearl Harbour. In fact it was Russia who primarily brought down germany. That in no way discredits the other allies, but we had to have the aid of Russia. I used to believe we would have won eventually, only because I wanted to believe it, but know , I don't think so. I have aways been very proud of our Canadian Armed Forces and still am. I wish you and all our allies God speed and a safe return home. Thanks for what you are sacrificing.

Germany started the war by invading Poland. Russia was a German ally until Germany invaded her. Then Russia became a U.S. ally because she needed our help. Russia aka the USSR, was a German ally before she got stabbed in the back by Germany. She seeked help from anyone. We helped her to counter Germany and help sap Germany's strength by making her fight a two front war.
2 :
japan and Germany and World War II was cause by a dictator who wished to kill all Jewish people and wish to rule the world . But as with all coward dict tor types Hitler shot his self when faced with a real fight.
3 :
Wow, that was confusing. Russia, the US, the UK (including Britain and all of its holdings), France, and others were apart of the allies against the Axis being Japan, Germany and Italy. US-Russo ties really started going down the toilet when the Red Army started to occupy Eastern European countries, installing Communist Governments and essentially putting the Iron Curtain in place. However, until Germany fell entirely, we were still technically friends. Russia declared formal war on Japan during the last days of WWII. Germany was the instigator of the war in that it invaded the Sudetenland in what is now the Chek (sp) Republic in clear defiance of treaties in signed post WWI. The invasion of Poland (with Russia's help) was the action made France and Britain declare war. That's quick and dirty and leaves out alot of specifics as well as the initial causes in WWI.
4 :
yes thats true, Russia became an ally after Germany invaded Russia and broke the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between them. The main countries for the allies were the: U.S, Russia, Britain The main Axis Power countries were: Germany, Japan, and Italy. What caused WWII was because Germany invaded Poland.
5 :
It is amusing that you've all ignored the fact that the US sat on the sidelines for most of WWII and refused to get involved until they were attacked directly by Japan. Despite the fact that Hitler was murdering Jews, homosexuals and other groups he didn't like across Europe. I guess it's true, perception really is reality.
6 :
To answer your questions in order: Yes, the Soviet Union (which included Russia) was an ally of the US and the British. The USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, also called the Soviet Union. Russia was a part of the USSR, but wasn't called Russia then), led by Stalin, signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler (leader of Germany). This was in force until Hitler broke it and invaded the Soviet Union. Stalin was taken unawares and unprepared, so Hitler did well at first. Stalin therefore allied with the British and the US to fight the Germans. The "cold war" didn't start until after WWII During the jostling for control over the states freed from the Nazis. ***** The USSR and the Japanese didn't work together. The war in Europe against Germany) ended sooner than that in Japan (May 8, 1945 for Germany’s surrender and August 15, 1945 for Japan’s) and the USSR was free to declare war on Japan, which it did. This was one of the reasons that the US dropped nuclear bombs on Japan. It wanted to end the war before the Soviet Union forces entered the fighting, who would then stay and have control in that country and region. After WWII Germany was divided into two halves, appropriately called West and East Germany. The US, the United Kingdom (the British) and France controlled the West. The Soviet Union controlled the East. Germany was two different countries. The US, UK and France set up a democracy in the West and then left (although the US left troops to guard against an attack from the Soviet Union, and many are still stationed there. Now the bases are used as staging grounds for operations in the Afghanistan and Iraq). The country they created was called the Federal Republic of Germany. The Soviet Union established a country in the Eastern half, called the German Democratic Republic. This was not democratic though – it was communist. The Soviet Union had many troops stationed there as well, and had a lot of influence in the Eastern half. Vladimir Putin, the current President of the Russian Federation, worked in East Germany as a spy when he was part of the KGB (this isn’t a secret – he admits it freely and uses his excellent German in speeches). ***** Germany played a very strong role in the War. They were allied with Japan, but because they had some common enemies in their efforts to expand their territories. In Europe, the war started when Germany annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia, claiming to be uniting the Germans who lived there (Austrians speak German and there were a lot of Germans in Czechoslovakia. The moved there in the centuries that it belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Austrian Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, which were all names used at different times to describe the same Empire ruled from the Austrian city of Vienna). At this point there was a lot of nervousness in Europe, as Hitler was using rhetoric such as “Germans need more land to live, which is their birthright.” But the British made a deal with Hitler that they would let him keep those countries if he didn’t go any further. Hitler agreed, but he invaded Poland anyway, and kept going from there. He took France, Bombed England and wanted to invade, and moved through Eastern Europe. He also invaded the USSR, as mentioned above. The US at this point wasn’t involved. Hitler made an alliance with the Japanese, who were engaged in their own war of expansion, because both were fighting the British and French (the British had a lot of Colonial holdings in the Pacific, and the French had some, too). The US became involved when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The Japanese wanted the US to withdraw from the pacific, but instead the US declared war on the Japanese. The Japanese and the Germans were allied, so Germany declared war on the US, which then also entered the European war. It was already helping the UK and the USSR with equipment and logistical support, but now it started a hot war too. And that is how it started, in its simplest, simplest form. If you want to know how Hitler came to power at all, the roots are in the depression, which was much, much worse in Germany than it was in the US. They are also in the end of World War I, when the Germans lost and were forced to pay crippling reparations payments. This created a desperate society with no idea of a future; when Hitler came in and told them that it wasn’t their fault, they were great, but everyone (especially the Jews) was keeping them down, and that he would make them strong again, people were relived to hear it. Sounds a bit like Islamic fundamentalists now to my ear (not entirely just a bit). Hitler also believed that access to the lands of the “inferior” peoples would give Germany the labor, land and natural resources to succeed. The roots of the Japanese war are a bit similar; they felt that since they are a small island nation, they could only succeed with access to the natural resources and land in other countries.

No, it wouldn't affect your US citizenship. about the only thing that would affect it, would be to formally renounce it before a consular officer overseas. even if you were to actually join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and become a diplomat, you wouldn't lose your citizenship. however, you couldn't serve in the US, primarily because as an American you wouldn't be eligible for diplomatic immunity inside the US.

Well, you're asking the wrong question, as "legality", despite what may be written in the legal code, is really dependent upon the whims of those with any authority over any particular circumstance. Therefore, the proper question is simply, "Will I BE ABLE to work part-time?" Right now, due to the economic crisis, it will be more difficult to find work, as there are many unemployed Russians (less opportunity) and those in power are operating under the strictest intepretations of the legal code (more risk for employers). Having said this, however, if you have specialized skills and/or knowledge which an employer needs, they'll find a way to make it happen. Since you didn't specify in which profession you're seeking work, I can only recommend some general starting points: http://yaca.yandex.ru/yca/cat/Employment If you already know some Russian, this would be a good place to feel out the job market. http://expat.ru/ Although this site has job listings, I recommend subscribing to the forums here...you can ask more specific questions here. http://www.moscowtimes.ru/index.htm A general classifieds job listing.

3 :
This is something you'll need to ask MPEI for further guidance. Russian law prohibits a legally visiting foreigner from taking a job which could be filled by a Russian citizen. However there are exceptions and the employer must file for the exception and apply for your permit. To see what kinds of jobs might be available, go to the Moscow Times career center listings at this link: http://www.careercenter.ru Here is the Russian job center at The Mendeleyeev Report: http://russianreport.wordpress.com/employment-in-russia/ Here is an excellent listing of Russian job boards. Some are in English and some require Russian language ability to read them: http://www.4icj.com/ru/ If you speak Russian, try: http://www.job.ru
4 :
you would need a work permit. Otherwise, it is illegal. And hearken not to those screaming about skinheads everywhere. Thugs can be found in any country.. You still could find something to do, yet these jobs would most likely be some kind of illegal, low-paid or fraudulent stuff. When you come to Moscow, you could try asking those you know or those who speak the same language with you.

Experience. Look at the poverty and shortages that all of the above mentioned have endured. The only reason their governments still exist is the facist style lack of freedoms of their people.
7 :
Because it doesn't. It flies in the face of human nature. People just aren't altruistic. We work in order to get ahead, not provide for our neighbors. The line in the former Soviet Unin said it all, "They pretend to pay us, we pretend to work.".
8 :
communism may work but how happy can the citizens of china really be i mean most of them work for little pay and in sweat shops making cheap products for places all over the world if america ever became like that I'd seriously kill myself and Russia hasn't been communist in a long time
9 :
Russia is no longer communist or socialist. China has been becoming more captitalistic for 20 years. Sweden is a example of a good, functioning socialist country. And the women are hot.
10 :
Ok look if your dumb enough to ask this question ur in high school go ask a history teacher ull get a nice big lecture on it and i thought the same way but they explained it to me
11 :
OPEN YOUR EYES....It NEVER...NEVER...NEVER has worked....people must be FORCED to work to quotas....In MOST cases it is controlled by a dictator or ruling group.....people are walled in it works so well and shot trying to get out.....I dont know where you DREAMED your info up....but ask anyone that has lived under these systems.....they LAUGH at anyone wanting to try it as being STUPID
12 :
People don't believe socialism and communism (which, by the way, are different subject matter. One is economics, the other is politics) because democratic systems have had serious issues in the past with countries that did have such systems and that line of thought carries over. Further, while the system is nice in theory, it almost always screws up eventually due to inherent flaw in the system: humans. We just can't be trusted with power most of the time. People are not necessarily ignorant of the socialist and communist system's virtues, it's just that at the moment, in a practical sense, it's considered the greater of two evils (I'm not saying capitalism and democracy are perfect systems by any measure). Truth be told, I find a blending of the two systems frequently a good idea. Canada, among other countries, does this admirably. However, screaming at people to open their eyes to what is a subjective view is generally not going to win you many opinions. I would suggest you consider all options and that your own opinion may not be entirely true (I know mine certain could be flawed).
13 :
You have bought into the propaganda that those nations out out. The facts remain that no one prospers under socialism or communism except a select few elitist totalitarian rulers.
14 :
Russia was once part of the Soviet Union, which broke up about 17 years ago. Russia's economy is on the rise due to being able to be capitalistic. China is slowly, but not fully, decreasing the communist strangle hold on its economy. IT still violates the human rights of many of its citizens. I wouldn't use those 2 as shining examples of communism. And Venezuela? Please, Chavez has many enemies and does the best he can to shut them up. For the most part, throughout history, it has shown itself to be a failure. Ask Yugoslavia. Ask Eastern Europe. And that's just off the top of my head.
15 :
-China is NOT a good example of communism. People who differ from the norm due to racial, cultural (there are dozens of different ethnic groups in China), spiritual and political reasons are often deemed "subversive." Their criminal system is completely corrupt, and people are executed usually within the first few days of being found guilty of a capital offense, no appeals, nothing. The only reason their economy is doing well is that they allowed for businesses to privatize starting earlier in this decade. -Russia? The Soviet Union collapsed because people were unhappy with their system. Their military industrial complex voided the national coffers, and people wanted self-determination. Now, Russia's political, judicial, and legal systems are EXTREMELY corrupt. The average Russian hasn't benefieted hugely from the economic boom there. Russia is no longer communist anyways, so your point here is moot. -Sweden is awesome. Sweden is a great example of how socialization CAN work.
16 :
It would work in theory, but in reality, people would become disgruntled from working so hard and only being as good as the guy who barely does any work at all. People like the idea of money, and the power it gives them over other people. Because of this, communism cannot be successful in the eyes of many people.
17 :
Russia has adopted a free market economy after the fall of the Soviet Union. China has evolved into a Capitalistic/Totalitarian society, when the took control of Hong Kong back from the Brits they adopted their standards of Capitalism. Sweden has 9 million people and a per capita GDP that ranks 16th in the world and a GDP that ranks 30th. We have 300m people 30 times than them and still we have a higher per person GDP a per capita GDP that ranks 4th and top ranking gross GDP. You have no concept of that which you speak. "You socialists only have one rebuttal to the argument that socialism has been tried and failed miserably; it's the same one an abused wife might hear from the drunken monster that blackened her eye: 'It'll be different this time, I swear!' "
18 :
Well, the problem comes in when people speak socialism and communism and get fascism. You say it works but you don't live there, do ya? Making a mistake on your job in China you can be jailed or even executed. True socialism or communism are not bad things and actually the very best form of government for all the people. But there has never been a true form of either. Your example as to Sweden is correct except that Sweden is a democratic-socialist State. And it has had it's share of major problems, including high inflation, high unemployment, and high interest rates during the early 90's. The government of Sweden still wields much power over the people. Btw, the entire EU is a socialist experiment and has yet to be proved as good.
19 :
The best REAL example is indeed in the old Soviet Union. Whenever, which was quite often, there was a food shortage, the state would "lease" land to individual farmers and the farmers would reap the benefits of their labor by freely selling their goods in the public markets. This small percentage of satellite farms would produce a large percentage of the state's total agricultural output. If this policy sounds a bit like a free enterprise system, it's simply because it was. None of the countries that you site in your question is a true socialist nation. Sounds good on paper - true economic equality - and then we add the human factor and initiate the system, and it falls flat on its face - every time.
20 :
Absolutely BEWILDERING! You've made this stuff up to dupe little kids. * Soviet Union - Communist - Collapsed from economic bankruptcy in the 1980's...it no longer bases it's economy on communist principles...neither does China or even Vietnam. * Cuba - economic negative GDP for years * Venezuela - only recently communist; now in negative GDP growth and declining rapidly. * Sweden - economically flat. There is not now or ever has been an economic model of success of communism. Socialism doesn't have one either. Please get some facts, or at least do a little research.
21 :
Maybe socialism is one of those things that looks good on paper but can't be practically applied.
22 :
Sweden is not socialist it is a social welfare state as is most of Europe. You have fallen for the right wing lies that income redistribution is the same as socialism, but it is not. Socialism is when the government own the means of production and makes the decisions about what is produced. This requires central planing which is as efficient as the US military, so the economy is not prosperous. China economy only stated to grow when started to privatized part of the economy, the USSR had an economic collapse and the new Russia is no longer Communist, Cuba is dirt poor, and Venezuela is an Oil Rich state with a lot of poor people and inequality. There is always corruption and greed, so an economic system that relies on the goodness of people is doomed to fail.

How well do democracies work in geographically large countries like Russia, China and the USA

How well do democracies work in geographically large countries like Russia, China and the USA?
Does the diversity which comes easier to large countries hinder democracy? In that they will never be able to cater to all the major ideologies and philosophies within large countries. I've been pondering the topic for a while now, Anyways, what are your thoughts on the subject?

Well, the USA is actually a republic, not a democracy. In our republic, the needs of the minority are carefully protected and by extension, the ideologies and philosophies of minorities are guaranteed. It's not perfect, but it works very well. I'm not sure China qualifies since their government rules with an iron fist and takes what it wants by gunpoint - Tibet. Eugene: How do the needs of the minority get protected in a straight democracy? The best definition of democracy I've heard goes like this: Democracy is two wolves and a sheep trying to decide what to have for dinner. James Madison put it this way: "Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death."
2 :
It works pretty well in the US where we have a Republic style of democracy. Direct democracy is better though because we count everyone's vote anyway.
3 :
When has democracy worked in the Middle East or the states of Africa or South America?
4 :
Democracy works well in the USA. I'm sure it would work in Russia and China if the had a democracy. Russia was sort of democratic, but has been moving away from that. China has never been a democracy.
5 :
A pure democracy would fail miserably in countries as large and as diverse as the US. While it makes us culturally well-rounded, when things hit the fan, xenophobia becomes rampant, and the mob would quickly squash the minority out of existence. For example, if we had a pure democracy right after 9/11, we would probably see a Kristallnacht of the Muslim community. Also, it is very hard and tedious for everyone all over the country to come to DC whenever we need a vote just so they can voice their opinion. Our system isn't perfect, but it's principles are the best anyone has.
6 :
Pro Con's quote about wolves & sheep is a good point. I would answer it by saying that for a large nation with many various regions, at least there will be some sheep present in the legislature of a democracy. Tibet could elect its representatives to parliament, but what are the odds today of a Tibetan becoming General Secretary?
7 :
1900's through the 1950's, beginning of the 60's, we were a country of immigrants and their 1st generation offspring. Italians and Jews. Polish , Irish, Germans. We were unique in our customs, alive with our ethnicity, in our homes, with each other. Outside, in the streets, schools and stores we blended as one, one language , one dress, styles, music, love and loyalty to ONE country always, always America. You could not tell who was a Jew from who was a Pole, all excepting the slight color difference, were the same, learned at the same schools. Only at worship , did they separate. That was once a week, private, family. I quess what I am trying to say is , being a large diverse country is not a problem, if everyone is connected by one main belief. I believe we worked so well as a country, worked played, fought, endured hardships and won because we all were one type of person, one thing ran common among us no matter where our parents were from, we ALL put country first, and honored HER CUSTOMS, HER LANGUAGE, FIRST, always , in this we were one. When the great wars came everyone fought, EVERYONE. My mother tells me that their were no young men, on the streets or anywhere , unless of course they were disabled. They all volunteered. It can work, but only with that type of unity. With PC , and the need to separate and 'spoon feed' our current immigrants and even their natural born children , we are losing our identity and weakening our nation. Division weakens. Instead of all fighting for a common good, we fight each other for the right to remain separate, for our own selfish needs. Bad politicians feed off this division, and further destroy our identity. That is why so many young people are seeking out other types of government, this is a tragedy. This does not need to be. The change starts with us, not government.

I agree with Yuliya. The Russia section is better. However, to answer your question-yes, you can try to get a job in Russia through: PeaceCorp, branches of U.S. companies in Russia (such as Kraft Foods, AP) or simply via getting a license to teach English as a second language (of course, the second option would pay the most). Good luck with your search
5 :
You could find a job as a teacher there, but do not expect to get rich, and remember the crime is very strong there, and there is no police protection. The professor of St.Petersburg university was killed together with his dog in his house...and he was Russia, and he was not rich. If you are willing to risk your life, try.

Not Megawatts but volts yes the usa uses 110 volt and most of the rest of the world uses 220-240. laptop companies know this so there powersupplies cover the range 110-240volts. depending on the model you should also be able tochange the Video format from NTS to PAL assume that you use pal system. if its cheaper then go for it. all the best RR
2 :
in communist russia, the laptop buys you! if you're using 110 megawatts your electric bill must be astronomical!
3 :
it will work just make sure you have a power converter for russian electrial outlets hardware is hardware it all works the same just some places are different then others lol. You mom is probably old and dosent know what shes talking about most older folks never do.

Why did Germany declare war on the soviet union/russia in ww2

Why did Germany declare war on the soviet union/russia in ww2?
if germany and russia worked together to invade poland at the same time, why did germany decide to declare war on russia?..

Bad judgement and miscalculation. Same as the reason Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. One side of every war is going to lose and the rulers of one of the two sides figured things wrong every time. The Southern Confederacy must have believed they could win. The Brits must have figured they could whip the Maoris and the Fuzzy Wuzzies, as well as the Afghans [twice]. The Mexicans must have thought they could win a war against the US. The Argentines must have thought they could win against the UK. ad infinitum.
2 :
Hitler wanted to rule the world. After he signed the Treaty before invading Poland the Russians trusted him and did not expect him to invade. He also wanted russia so he had a clear path to Japan. Also, Hitler viewed the russians as subhuman . At the time Russia was also ripe for the picking . Stalin's purges had decimated the russian officer corps, leaving for the most part only political lackeys in high military leadership. This combined with poor military infastructure left them very vulnerable .
3 :
The whole idea of Hitler was to conquer as much of Russia as possible. In German, that was called "die Drang nach Osten", roughly translated "the urge to conquer the east". From Day 1, that was what Hitler wanted to achieve. Conquering Western Europe was just to safeguard that attack.
4 :
Hitler believed that Germany could only flourish by expanding Eastward to gain what Nazis called lebensraum, living space. It seems this belief was based on his assumption that [supposed] racial superiority over the Russian population gave Germans the right to take the Eastern lands as opposed to the [supposed] cultured west. These ideas of racial superiority combined with Eastern expansion were at the very heart of Nazi ideology. The pact with Russia was just an expedient for Hitler which allowed Germany to take most of Poland without a Russian war which they were not yet prepared for and simultaneously [as Hitler thought] keep France and England from going to war by denying them Russia as an ally.
5 :
The main reasons are in 2 categories, economic and ideological. Economic reasons: Hitler's Third Reich needed oil, food, slave labour and land for the expansion of Germany and the Germanic People. All these were available if Russia could be conquered. The German economy needed to plunder resources from other countries so as to keep the standard of living high for the German population. The Germans had already conquered te rest of Europe. To stave off economic collapse at home, it was necessary to conquer Russia and use its resources to prop up the German Home economy. Ideological: Nazi political ideology was fundamentally opposed to Communism. Russia was the only existing Communist state - if it could be conquered, the main political ideology opposed by the Nazis would be eradicated.. Several million Jews lived in Russia. Nazi racial ideology saw the Jews as a direct racial threat to the purity of the blood of the Germanic people, so the Nazis wanted to kill all the Jews. To get at the Jews in Russia, invasion and conquest of that country was necessary. Note: 'Drang nacht Osten' translates as ' The drive to the East' rather than 'urge to conquer the East'

Your safest bet is to get a bank account and have them wire the money via a Russian bank. It will take awhile though.
2 :
Bank transfer is the best way to safely move money internationally. Western Union limits are fairly low -- typically @$300. How old are you? You must be over 18 to open a bank account. If you're over 18, you should already have an account -- it's crucial!

why should the skin-heads in Russia hate the blacks in Moscow

why should the skin-heads in Russia hate the blacks in Moscow?
I think is it high time that the world should call the so called skin-heads in Moscow to order!Innocent blacks have iether been beaten or even killed!!If they dont want to see any blacks on their streets it is better to say it than beating people on the streets corners. But they too should know that the blacks can equally revenge on their fellow brothers working outside Russia;it is time the leaders in Africa should take a bold step to tackle this ugly menace before it is too late.

The blacks in Africa are too busy killing each other defend anyone. They don't even stop slavery by the Arabs. Maybe they don't want their Russian culture polluted with loud hiphop music, baggy, ridiculous looking clothes and cheap gaudy jewelry.
2 :
Prejudice is ignorance. Teach rationality to the youth and to the public. This can change the world.
3 :
Even in Germany, (most of, at least) the skin-heads hate or treat foreigners not in a pleasant way. Asian, black, Arabs, etc. It starts to be a global problem, IMHO.
4 :
Have you evere researched the meaning of skin head? So, to answer your question, thats what skin heads are and thats what they do!This day and age you need to know your sourroundings and need to be able to protect yourself from harms way. I agree with you on the revenge but, leaders in Africa aren't going to do anything. They need to address the needs of the starving children. They have biigger fish to fry!
5 :
People hate other people. It's almost an inherent aspect of the species. Hatred is rampant in Europe, Russia, the US, the Middle East. Why? Because people are intolerant of those who are different. And that intolerance makes them want to eliminate those who are different. It's the whole basis for attempted genocide in Africa, the Palestinian conflict, racism everywhere, and the same for the war on terror (both the US and foreign sides of the conflict). Should we step in and stop the hatred? Absolutely. But where do we start? I think we need to start wherever home is, and clean our own mess and stop prejudice-inspired violence here. I don't care what people think about other people. If you want to hate someone, or fear them, that's your choice. But that doesn't give anyone the right to attack someone else just for being different. Not the Skin-Heads, not the Genocidal generals, not the Terrorists, and not the US neocons. Sadly, the way the world is going, people are polarizing and even political parties are starting to hate and attack each other just for having different beliefs. The world has gone to hell in a hand-basket, and there's serious question on whether people are going to wise up and learn to get along before the process becomes terminal.
6 :
Time to call the SHARPS!!!!
7 :
You need to understand that sometime, some people need some reasons to acknowledge their existence. What would happen if everyone on planet earth was skin-heads ? That will not stop them differentiate themselves from small, empty, crushed, and refurbished skin-head. To paraphrase the 20th french writer I do not remember his name : " HELL IS OTHERS ! " ( Rich, poor, strong, weak, white, blonde, black, tall, short, handicapped or not ) and whatever adjectives that best describe your personality : there is only a single common ground : to be born to die. In between them, we it is life.

What would it take for a woman from Russia to be able to work in the United States

What would it take for a woman from Russia to be able to work in the United States?
I am aware of "Visa" however the Visa available to her is for 3 months. She needs a Visa for 2/3 years for work/school purposes. Is this possible? Also, will marriage help any? I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MARRYING THE GIRL. This is a question I am asking for my sister. Her friend is from Russia and wants to live here and work, so please stop assuming that this question is related to me. And thank you Yak Rider for all the information, it is appreciate.

There's no such visa. There's a work visa for college educated professionals with 2 years experience. This visa is booked full through 2009. There's a student visa that offers very, very limited ability to earn a few dollars spending money. To get this visa she must prove she has the ability to support herself and pay for her education in the United States without needing to work. A 3 month tourist visa will not allow her to work and it will not allow her to attend school. A REAL marriage would allow her the opportunity to immigrate to the United States if found eligible by the US Consulate in Russia. A fake marriage would get her deported and the guy convicted of visa fraud.
