To work in Russia you need to obtain a work permit based on your visa. It is easiest if your employer requests the permit for you. Doing it yourself requires the services of an attorney, which can be quite expensive. Another alternative is to register as a private entrepreneur. Once a Russian business offers a foreign citizen a permanent job, the work permit can be issued. Work permits require the approval of the Federal Migration Service. If you change your job, you may keep the work permit obtained by your previous employer, if it still has at least 3 months until the expiry date. The employer in Russia must obtain the work permit before the employee arrives in Russia. The company needs to demonstrate that your work cannot be done by a Russian. The best and the most legal way is to officially get a work permit for yourself through the employer (note, that this employer should also have a permission to employ foreign citizens). Another way is to arrange that a certain staff leasing company employs you and then leases you to the company you really want to work with. Passport copies of a foreign employee's and each family member's passports. Passports should be valid no less than for 6 months. 2. Copy of Certificate proving the foreign employee's professional education, obtained in the foreign state or equivalence of such a document to a Russian certificate of the professional education. 3. Medical examination by a registered physician in a Russian State clinic certifying that the applicant is free of tuberculosis, leprosy, HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and genital chancres. For those persons applying for a Residence Permit in Moscow, an additional test certifying a negative result for the presence of narcotics is also required. Medical Certificates cannot be issued for more than 90 days from the exam date. 4. 2 photographs 3x4 (mat, colour) of the employee and each family member; 5. Notarised copy of the spouse's Marriage Certificate. 6.
