Its possible but don't expect to earn much money. Your best bet would be to team up with a tour guide agency.
2 :
Almost everyone will want you to be 18+ and have Russian passport But you could always work as private tutor What city you are going to, Moscow or some other? What kind of job? And where are you from? (Just wondering)

what is the best way for me to find a job in Russia

what is the best way for me to find a job in Russia?
I was born in the U.S and always dreamt of living , going to school, becoming a citizen, serving in its military if necessary and working in Russia. I took Russian in high school and I have read russian history. I even know the russian premiers in order. I want to be a culinary student and eventually a politician and russia would be closer to my ideals then the U.S would.

If you want to be a culinary student, you should find a good culinary school here that can teach you about the russian cuisine. There are plenty of good culinary arts schools in the US that offer this russian cuisine education program. Just find the right one for you.

Do Americans move to russia to live and work

Do Americans move to russia to live and work?
are there opportunities there if one has money to invest in a business or land?

1 :
yes americans move there but not that much.
2 :
Yes some do. Beats me why? Mendeleyev is one of them. So is Alejandro. And they happy here, like the Drift of Hogs in the rice fields. So keep coming Americans. Maybe one day we will find the same language.
3 :
Mendeleyev was an american!!??? Ohhh...mine....never heard, its discovery of America for me.In truth he never been in the USA Yes,in news 3 weeks ago was american family, they farmers in Siberian village.
4 :
Absolutely Americans move to Russia and find very good opportunities there. Granny is partially right, right now I am back in the US finishing my studies (I graduate in May) but I lived in Russia for 4 years and loved it very much. I have Russian permanent residence so I can go back whenever I want and my wife and I hope to return there soon. As for other Americans going there, a lot of people I have met have wanted to learn Russian and so the easiest way for them and other foreigners to go to Russia is for them to study Russian language. This can be done through a Russian university and many stay until they are fluent. At which time they can get good jobs. Others go to Russia as part of a religious charities and organizations that try and help out. A big group there was the Mormons, but because of the new visa laws, the Mormons are going to be pulling out of Russia. But many international organizations like to do charitable work and find Russia a good place to help. Investors like Russia because of a low income tax rate and very low overall tax rate. They are able to invest money in an emerging market and find lots of ways to make money. If you are talking about investment in business or land, people are more likely to invest in production, such as factories, because labor is inexpensive and the rate of investment is high. There are a lot of computer companies that have their business license in the US but the production of games and software is done in Russia. In terms of investment in land, a British company and other agricultural companies are investing in land because of how good the soil is and want to do an economy of scale and really increase the agricultural yield there. There are many of opportunities there, you just have to be flexible and willing to work hard.

Does WikiLeaks work for Russia? China? Iran? Or maybe Someone else

Does WikiLeaks work for Russia? China? Iran? Or maybe Someone else?
OK, WikiLeaks seemed interesting at first, but I now think they are being way too extreme. They are essentially revealing the intelligence documents of an entire nation. Is there any site that will reveal every single Russian secret plans? Is there any site that will reveal every single Chinese secret plans? From an amateur site WikiLeaks has grown into a huge thing. They could very well be sponsored by one or more countries who wish to see the USA fade away. And I don't like Republicans and I don't like the right wing at all, but I still think WikiLeaks could actually put the USA in danger. People with bad intentions could use their documents to their own political benefit.

3 :
I know this might be hard for you to believe but Wikileaks is simply working to reveal the truth. Assange is not working for Russia or China because he's revealing classified information about them too. Look if you've got nothing to hide you've got nothing to worry about.
4 :
... According to Wikipedia: WikiLeaks is an international non-profit media organization that publishes submissions of otherwise unavailable documents from anonymous sources and leaks. Its website, launched in 2006, is run by The Sunshine Press.[1] Within a year of its launch, the site claimed a database that had grown to more than 1.2 million documents.[3] The organization has described itself as having been founded by Chinese dissidents, as well as journalists, mathematicians, and start-up company technologists from the U.S., Taiwan, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.[1] Newspaper articles and The New Yorker magazine (7 June 2010) describe Julian Assange, an Australian journalist and Internet activist, as its director.[4] ~ Remember, Wikileaks didn't break in and steal those documents. The real problem for the U.S. is the source of the leaks. Anyone leaking defense-sensitive information should be tried for treason.

If the government was acting "in the best interest" for the people that live in the US then they would have no reason to keep secrets. The government should not do ANYTHING that is contrary to public opinion of the majority. There should be no reason for them to keep any secrets from it's citizens. We have the RIGHT to know EVERY move they make. That is not to say people living outside the US have that same right, because they don't, unless it is something that directly effects them. In that case I think they should have the right to know. If anything has put this country in danger it is the politicians themselves. Wikileaks only reports the news, they don't make it. Now if they are posting slanderous or false documents it becomes a civil matter between them and the people named therein. Freedom of the press is protected in this country. Freedom of speech and religion are also supposed to be protected. Ask yourself this. Would you even know that wikileaks existed if it hadn't been "advertised" on the news?? 4 :
The best thing would be not to do anything that you're likely to be embarrassed about later. It's the problem of having secrets. Someone might find out. Example. There is a far more professional way to describe a relationship that isn't as embarrassing as calling two world leaders batman and robin. There are also ways to behave professionally that don't aim to embarrass and humiliate those you claim as your friend or ally.
5 :
I think the operator of the site started out with good intentions, i.e. to keep the government honest, but I agree that he's gone much too far. What leaders say about other leaders in confidence behind closed doors doesn't have to be public knowledge. Some things should remain secret, especially when we're at war. Too many revelations could endanger our troops further, and possibly even create new conflicts. He needs to learn to use some discretion.

Iran? Wikileaks has bashed Iran. No, Wikileaks is a CIA/Mossad operation. If they didn't want the info to come out, the info would not come out. And if it did, the 'leakers' would pay dearly. This is all staged garbage to throw gas on fires. Nothing new here. That said, I don't disagree a lot of these filth would like to see the US fade away. "Our Asian intelligence sources report the following: “Wikileaks is running a disinformation campaign, crying persecution by U.S. intelligence- when it is U.S. intelligence itself. Its [Wikileaks'] activities in Iceland are totally suspect.” Wikileaks claims it is the victim of a new COINTELPRO [Counter Intelligence Program] operation directed by the Pentagon and various U.S. intelligence agencies. WMR’s sources believe that it is Wikileaks that is part and parcel of a cyber-COINTELPRO campaign, such as that proposed by President Obama’s “information czar,” Dr. Cass Sunstein. In January 2007, John Young, who runs Cryptome, a site that publishes a wealth of sensitive and classified information, left Wikileaks, claiming the operation was a CIA front." http://truthrss.com/2010/07/28/wikileaks-cointelpro/

Would young Western women experience much the problem of harassment by the opposite sex when working in Russia

Would young Western women experience much the problem of harassment by the opposite sex when working in Russia?
I have looked through a number of travel blogs but they mainly seem to talk about a country being a good or a bad place for singles referring to the 'size' of the dating pool there. I am not interested in that in the least and Russians would be the last to take my fancy. What bothers me is whether gender harassment or even aggression and related problems could be a big issue for me in Russia.

only SOME russians think that. if you go, you should be fine.
2 :
People r the same pretty much everywhere u go.. in like all countries there r some more aggresive and nasty people while others r nice and sweet. but russia is known for its aggresiveness. so Russia might not be the best place to go lookin for "romance"
3 :
It might be. From what I've heard sexual harrassment is a problem in Russia just as it is in the West. There are laws, but no one takes them seriously like they do in US and other western nations. There's only been two sexual harrasment cases in Russia that have been successful. As recently as Summer 2008, a judge in Russia recently ruled that, "Sexual harrassment was necessary to ensure the survival of the human race." I was like WTF? So, read the link below, then draw your own conclusion as to whether or not a Western woman would have problems. Personally, I wouldn't go to Russia, not if the men there have the same sort of attitude as that judge.
4 :
No, there is no large-scale gender harassment in russia. Both genders are treated equally. As usual women are considered less productive in work, so you should show better results than men if you want to receive proper respect. And about sexual abuse at work, it depends not on the country but on people. You can meet such jerks everywhere around the globe. Usually such abuse is the result of "weakness" of women. They are afraid to lose good job, or just cant put up a fight. I have a huge amount of bussiness girls here in Moscow and I never heard that somebody abused them at work (if not count simple flirting). At first the social part will be hard for you, but as you live and work, you will get used to russian style of life. There are a lot of good people around here. And by the way, don't listen to those who say that foreigners are not welcome in Russia. yes, we don't like US (country who lives the best, has 10 trillions debt, and uses those money to figth for an idea, where that idea is not welcomed yet) but we differ country and people. Nobody here hates americans, just the politcs of US. I can tell you a story, that my father told me. He was a sailor in USSR and has bought Toyota. It was 1978 and there were little such cars in USSR. Once he came to fuel station and went to pay for gas. several drivers were talking near and one of them was using bad words in his speech (not about the father just chatting in bad manner). His friend interrupted him by saying: don't say bad words, don't you see a foreigner is near. This example illustrates how russians treat foreigners. Even not normative lexics was thought to be rude to use, because of respect. Now it is not so good, thanks to democracy of the 90's. But almost anyone will be happy to meet a foreigner to speak with about different views on life.

I am an American living and working in Russia and make regular trips home. I have a limited budget (since I am a missionary) and wish to economize as much as possible. Question for high maintenance people traveling between US and Russia

Question for high maintenance people traveling between US and Russia?
I have to go to Moscow for a week for a business trip and I need to bring all my beauty supplies with me, including hair straightener and blow dryer. Russia has different voltage though and different plugs. I went to Radio shack and they didn't know which ones I needed, and I have no idea either. Has anyone gotten a plug with a voltage converter from the US that worked in Russia? What is the name of it? Which stores carry it? Thank you! Thank you Janet! Unfortunately the trip didn't go as scheduled, our visas did not arrive on time because the machine at the embassy broke or something. I was supposed to go today but packed for nothing. Might go next week.... I hope I'll keep everyone updated :D

GO TO a store that specializes in luggage... they most likely will know and some of them have the pack that has ALL of the types used.
2 :
Check Wikipedia/Russia...I think that will tell, or just search Russia, and see what you can find. Voltage in Europe is 220, but many countries have different plugs. Any travel store should carry them, though. And they should be able to help you pick out the right kind. If worse comes to worst, you should be able to pick something up for $4 - 5 at the local hardware store when you get there, or the hotel may have them...I don't know about Russia, but in Spain, there's like two hardware stores on almost every block!
3 :
The euro plugs usually can work, but sometimes you have to hold them in or tape em in place. the prongs are similar and not very different in size... so it all depends on what you end up plugging into. I used both russian and euro prongs in russia and other former soviet countries.
4 :
I went to Russia and used a 220 converter I bought from RADIO SHACK!!! hello they must be a bunch of idiots in your RS store! They got a kit for like 20 bucks and can be used to convert any device you to have to accept their current. I charged my ipod in like 10 mins! So imagine what it can do for your blow dryer! You should be alright. Try another RS store and they should have the converter kit for you!~ Good luck! Poka!:)
5 :
I got mine at LONGS and it works just fine.
6 :
I'm not sure Devochka, but I just wanted to wish you well. It sounds so exciting to be traveling to Russia for a business trip! Be safe, and make sure you let us all know when you get back, okay?!
7 :
At 99% of Russian houses there is 220 voltage though and European plugs. But in some very old houses you can find Soviet plugs, that are smaller than European plugs. But you won`t find them in the good hotels.

When someone I knew got offered NTV in America, I assumed that the sales person had gone through the phone book and looked for Russian names. You can use the web, too. Put a notice in any Russian language newspaper. Find out where your nearest Russian orthodox church is. Figure out who's offering NTV in Charlotte. On my friend's NTV channel, there are ads selling black current juice, Russian children's books, and, I think, valenki. I assume the ads are cheap since the audience is limited. You could probably help the Ukrainians, too.

To Americans:Why do some believe Obama's decision to work with Russia to deal with Iran is a sign of weakness

To Americans:Why do some believe Obama's decision to work with Russia to deal with Iran is a sign of weakness?
Its called diplomacy. If Russia and US are able to stop Iran from its program, then the US is in no need for the missile defense that it claims is for Iran...its common sense. I here some American peers at my college saying that Obama is weak for dealing with Russia....it makes no sense to me. Weakness is believing that in order to solve every problem, you must go at it alone without regarding the opinions of others. I think Obama and Gates are actually showing strength. The Cold War is over Americans...Russia is no longer your enemy. Do you know the amount of trade that goes between your country and RUssia?

Because most people are idiots.
2 :
while your busy playing nice the next guy is looking to get over on you
3 :
Uh because it is...
4 :
Russia is no longer your enemy might have worked a year ago but they are increasingly becoming the cold war bully they were for decades before that. Why do you think a Russian bomber flew over Canada last week near the US border? They are thumbing their nose at us.
5 :
Well, you saw President Bush - the ones that see this as a sign of weakness are typically those that supported Bush (Republicans).
6 :
Russia is selling the arms to Iran, why would they try and stop the Iranians? No chance.
7 :
For the last 8 years, if we did not invade and take over the world, we must be weak. Why did Repubs only invade 2 countries? One of which was just a third world country? They wanted world domination and they wanted to do it all alone. So why did they stop at 2? Because they're weak minded - as was their policy. That's part of the reason nobody wants them in office anymore.
8 :
Ummmm did you see Russia's response to attempting to play nice? Evidently not or you would understand how wrong your assumptions on diplomacy are.
9 :
If you don't think Russia is our enemy than you're amazing naive. What do you think was the motivation behind Russia's aggression against Georgia? Or Ukraine? They're getting to friendly with the US/Europe so Russia strikes at them. That is essentially an attack against US. So keep your "the cold war is over" bit to yourself, because the Russians chose to restart it.
10 :
The Russians now know that they can push obama around since he immediately gave up on east Europe to accomodate the Russians
11 :
It is very weak to trust blatant liars, Russia lied about the S-300 system it sold to Iran, so what would stop them from lying about disarmament? Some people are so gullible.
12 :
why did obama want to hide it.?
13 :
it acknowledges that obama has no control over the situation and that is why medvedev balked at the idea of tying those two things together, the missle shield and the iran issue. russia is helping iran, why would they stop anything, russia has drug their feet on the issue. and maybe you should tell russia the cold war is over, they have reverted back quite close to it over the past 6 or so years.
14 :
We've tried to work with Russia since 1918, Democrats let them have the Nuclear secret and all of Eastern Europe.
15 :
maybe they liked the cold war and they want to restart it.
16 :
If you believe the cold war is over I have some Kool Aid for you, oh wait, it's already gone sorry. I do have a nice tin foil hat over here however...
17 :
It was also called "diplomacy" when Neville Chamberlain sold out the Czechs and the Poles to build his "lasting peace" with Hitler. The point here is that the President of the United States is offering to break an earlier promise made to protect smaller nations (by providing missile shield technology to former Warsaw Pact nations) in order to get the much larger Russia to comply with United Nations mandates. Once again, you must look beyond the superficial and actually examine the content and context of what is really happening.
18 :
Because working with warlords and terrorists to defeat the soviets was courageous. Working with a sovereign nation is cowardly.
19 :
He wrote him a letter....so silly in my opinion. He should have planned a face to face meeting and gone over there. He looks like a coward and weak man in the face of Putin and the rest of the world now...he is a joke. Bush may have been a warmonger but at least he didnt look this wimpy.
20 :
working with russia (putin) is like working with the local crack whore.they will turn on you in a heartbeat ! obama is like charlie with the football in the cartoon charlie brown.....yikes ,we are screwed.
21 :
So the cold war is over? Why were two dozen journalist killed in Russia recently? Why was Georgia invaded? Why didn't Putin step down? Do you know how many people Putin killed with his bare hands while a field officer in eastern Europe? Why are all those missiles pointed at the US??? Ohbama is on the road to war. A bloody, bloody war.
22 :
Red herring. I have heard no one say that. (until you did.) Why shouldn't we work with Russia on things in both of our countries' best interests?
23 :
I believe they see him as not having earned respect in any circle. They do not respect him. None of them do, as they cannot point to actions which make his character.
24 :
The missile defense systems are not for Iran, they are for Russia. The government can tell you what they want, but do some research and you will see that they are clearly intended to prevent Russia from launching.
25 :
now if some day an Iranian built nuke is 'stolen' by Islamic radicals and sails into NY harbor where it goes off -- do you think the Russians will give a rat's ass?? In fact, it might well be a big bonus to their long term strategic intentions and designs. America is crippled. Or counterattack destroys Tehran. This leaves Iran in shambles and maybe Russia can just waltz in and seize the oil and the long desired ice free ports on the Indian ocean. Hmm -- maybe this is why Russia has been selling nuclear technology to Iran all along. they need the income and as long as Iran is pointed at America, why would they care if hell breaks loose in NYC??
26 :
There is always another Iran... Meaning there is always another threat. Russia does not want a US missile defense system in Eastern Europe because it take power and control away from Russia. Russia is a growing threat again. It is reconstituting the old U.S.S.R. mentality of oppression. On top of that, while Russia will not say it is an enemy of the US, Russia goes out of it's way to aide enemies of the US. The list of countries Russia has helped behind the US's backs is long. While Russia has every right to aid whom ever they please, don't try to pretend your our friend at the same time. Call a spade a spade... I do not know the amount of trade that goes on between Russia and the US. However, I know the US dumps billions of dollars of free and heavily discounted grain and food into Russia and get little in return. Russia is staging a comeback. They are a growing threat. How else would you explain Russia not wanting a missile defense system in Europe? The same missile defense system we offered to give to them and they refused? If you honestly think Putin the puppet master is not an enemy of the US then you have your head in the sand.
27 :
Working w Russia diplomatically on the Iranian situation is tempting. But I don't think Obama should handle it. Not Hillary either. Russia CANNOT be trusted. They are not a Western nation.
28 :
It's not. It was Putin's telling him to kiss him between the butt cheeks and the confirmation that that's about all Barry's got that was a sign of weakness. And if Barry recognize that too, why was the letter a secret? Russia, the middle east...all of America's enemies are giddy at the appearance of Little Boy Barry.
29 :
It's not that he's using diplomacy. All presidents, including Bush, have used negotiation and diplomacy. It's that he's already talked about eliminating the one leverage he has to use in dealing with Putin - anti-ballistic missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic. He didn't learn anything from Reagan, did he? Instead of premature and foolish talk about pulling them, he should have been pushing for rapid deployment of them. That would get Pooty-Poot to the table right quick. Now, Obama has exposed himself as an amateur. Just like JFK did to Kruschev. And we all know what happened after Kruschev found out that JFK was a patzer - we almost had a nuclear war. Putin is arguably more ruthless and shrewd than Kruschev, and has stronger leverage with the oil & gas pipelines and the close relations with Iran. It's going to get ugly folks.

Im also learning C++ programming and French. Will i ahve a good chance at a hedge fund or prop firm in Moscow or Petersburg? I want to emulate George Soros or Bruce Kovner. Perhaps, Randy Mckay or Richard Dennis.

Russia is a young and upcoming country, BUT if you strive to be as successful as the people mentioned, DON'T GO TO RUSSIA.. Why don't any of those people live in Russia? Because the money is not there. Moscow has a lot of rich people, but they are Russian citizens or foreign citizens with strong ties to a company, and they "know people". And even if you are still wanting to go, then you have to get a Russian business visa. I tried to get one twice before and the government simply said no. There are very strict requirements on getting one. Honestly, if you have to relearn Russian, don't have a million bucks to invest, and are not a Russian citizen or not strongly tied to a big business man there, then your chances are minimal. Your best bet is to open a business. But you have to get the "permission" and its a very complicated process, and very "back doorsy". I met an American dude here at a bar, and he owns the TGIFs here... very successful guy, but had the money and resources.

And what are you asking about ?-Let you live and work ! I live and work abroad and you will be able. Why not?

I agree with Lyudmila.

I know at least one Irish guy who was quite successful here without big resources. He 's been living here for 16 years now, has his business running, a Russian wife and kids. But initially he came here with the international company.

Obtain a job skill Russia is in need of. Learn Russian. Apply for a work visa and you'll eventually be able to apply for citizenship. Or perhaps marry someone in Russia, get a marriage visa and apply for citizenship. The two above scenarios are the easiest ways to move to Russia. But of course choose the path you want along with career choices. My personal recommendation is to become an English teacher. The classes are conducted in such a manner where you don't need to speak Russian. Russia is in severe need of Native English speakers to teach English. This is by far the easiest job to get for a foreigner assuming your native tongue is English. Plus you'd make more than 3x the pay of the average Russian school teacher. I hope I helped! GOOD LUCK!

We'll never know, neither candidate is proposing a socialist nation. Try reading a history book. Or a dictionary at the very least.
2 :
Who's proposing that? I've heard Republicans talk about it a lot, but I don't believe McCain will be winning this time around.
3 :
I don't of any candidate that is actually bringing about socialism in this election so I don't know where this question is coming from. Socialism can work in just about any country...just like democracy, communism, etc. You just have to be free to operate and not get involved in unnecessary wars that drain your resources, fracture your populace and foster a loss of confidence in the government.
4 :
You really should not show your ignorance, Russia was communist and Nazi Germany was fascist. Many European countries have had socialist governments and these have led to free health care a decent minimum wage and social welfare systems. Barack Obama is a long way from being a socialist as you would know if you understood what the term meant. I suggest you spend more time educating yourself and less asking questions which only show your dismal lack of knowledge of the English language. Comment: Yes it was called national socialist party but it had nothing in common with socialist principles or ideals. He also called concentration camps "work camps".
5 :
Not in full. We already have many socialized programs in America as we speak. Some are good - firefighters, police, welfare, etc. But for the most part they are corrupt (excluding firefights). All seem to be ran by government agencies with secrete agendas. Unfortunate once they are instituted it is virtually impossible to get rid of. FDR implemented most of the socialized programs we currently have in place, causing the great depression to last much longer than it needed to. It took WWII to get us out of the depression. Obama is not going to turn this country in a Socialist Country but he will implement new socialized programs which will irreversible. He also wants the redistribution of wealth which is extremely socialistic. If he were to socialize health care like every one thinks he is going to do would be one thing but all he wants to do is force your employer who probably cannot afford it to pay for you. If you do not have it then you can pay for it yourself. This is not Health care this is forcing Health Insurance upon those who do not have it. What he will do is harm the economy but most do not see it as such and view the "rich" with an endless supply of money that never ends.

How did marriage work in Russia during the nineteen hundreds

How did marriage work in Russia during the nineteen hundreds?
I'm writing a fiction story that takes place in Russia during the early 1900s. I'm writing about two marriages: one from a man's point of view, and the other from a woman's point of view. Does anyone know how the marriage system worked back then? I looked all over google and couldn't find anything. This is what I need to know: 1. How old were women the first time they got married? 2. How old were the men? 3. At what age did women start having children? 4. How long after planning the marriage would the couple get married? 5. Could men take multiple wives? 6. Was there any process or test the woman or man had to go through before the family agreed to marry the two? Thanks!

What was the five year plan in Russia and how did it work

Can someone please explain to me what was the five year plan in russia and how did work and any basic information about it thank you all

Which one? They had one each year.
2 :
The Five Year Plans (FYPs) set plans for the entire Soviet economy, there were rewards, and punishments for enterprises depending on whether they fulfilled their targets or not. The FYPs transferred the ownership of all businesses to the state, every factory and office, every timber yard and shop. The first FYPs built huge new factories, producing iron and steel, as well as infrastructural projects, such as hydro-electric dams. The first FYPs were an ideological response to the previous policy - the New Economic Policy (NEP). NEP allowed small businesses to operate and was creating a middle class. The Communists were never happy with this policy as Marx stated that communism could only happen when the workers owned the means of production. The FYPs, as the state was a "workers state" saw the workers - i.e. the state own all the means of production. This changed the country from having private enterprise (albeit at a small level) as the main economic driving force, to having the state - and its planning arm - Gosplan as the main driving force. Positives: Transformed the country - much of the country was electrified, huge civil engineering works and massive new factories brought change in the way that people worked. Agriculture was transformed from an inefficient peasant based and labour intensive activity to an inefficient, worker (collective farm workers received wages) based and more mechanised activity. It also solidified the gains of the revolution - the revolutionary elite can, after the first FYP really be called the political class. This means they can start to act like a political elite - not like an underground movement. Negatives: The kulaks - richer peasants - were deported to Siberia and the Kazakh steppe. This ideological decision rooted out the most efficient, often the most educated and the most entrepreneurial farmers and destroyed them. The civil engineering works were completed with little regard to quality - the Belomor canal, dug at huge cost in human life (prisoners, both criminal and political were used to dig it) but it was not deep enough for the ocean going ships it was designed for. Stalin used the political turmoil following Lenin's death and the to isolate, eliminate and to, on occasion, to execute his rivals. The political elite lived lives of fear - fear that a misplaced word or an ill-conceived look could lead to a knock on the door in the middle of the night. Okay --- Russia did not have any Five Year Plans, the Soviet Union did. It was not a "plan" but PLANS. There were thirteen plans running from 1928 to 1991. First Plan, 1928–1933 Second Plan, 1933–1937 Third Plan, 1938–1941 Fourth and Fifth Plans, 1946–1950 and 1951–1955 Sixth Plan, 1956–1960 Seventh Plan, 1959–1965 Eighth Plan, 1966–1970 Ninth Plan, 1971–1975 Tenth Plan, 1976–1981 Eleventh Plan, 1981–1985 Twelfth Plan 1986–1990 Thirteenth Plan 1991 The Five-Year Plans for the National Economy of the Soviet Union were a series of nation-wide centralized exercises in rapid economic development in the Soviet Union. The plans were developed by a state planning committee based on the Theory of Productive Forces that was part of the general guidelines of the Communist Party for economic development. Fulfilling the plan became the watchword of Soviet bureaucracy. In addition, several capitalist states have emulated the concept of central planning, though in the context of a market economy, by setting integrated economic goals for a finite period of time. Several five-year plans did not take up the full period of time assigned to them: some were successfully completed earlier than expected, while others failed and were abandoned. The initial five-year plans were created to serve in the rapid industrialization of the Soviet Union, and thus placed a major focus on heavy industry. The last Five-Year Plan was for the period from 1991 to 1995 and was not completed, as the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-Year_Plans_for_the_National_Economy_of_the_Soviet_Union

Guam is a US Commonwealth, I think even US citizens need a passport to go their, check with a travel agent in your local area.
2 :
Guam is a US territory. Every man, woman and child born on Guam is a US citizen. When I lived there I was told, that due to the distance flown in international air space, each time you return to Hawaii or the mainland from Guam you'll be prescreened by a CBP officer before boarding on Guam and you'll have to clear customs and immigration upon reaching Hawaii or the Mainland. You can come and go as you please as long as your L1 is still valid.
3 :
Going to Guam is no different (except for the distant) than going to New York City or Los Angeles. Guam is included in the legal definition of the United States. You would not receive a new I-94 if you went to Guam and then returned to some other part of the U.S. "The term "United States", except as otherwise specifically herein provided, when used in a geographical sense, means the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands of the United States."

Not at the moment. There is no Russian carrier that can activate the service at this time. Only the phone features will work (no voicemail, the video/music downloads from the store, etc will not work). You will also have to get the phone unlocked, to insert a foreign sim card in it and have it work. AT&T will not unlock it until you have service for 90 days minimum, and if you use a service to unlock it, it will void your warranty.
2 :
Yes, it will! You must unlock your phone first (I used SimFree). I use MegaFon in Russia and all features (except for visual voicemail) worked like a charm in both Moscow and in the NW region. The biggest pain is remembering to bring a paperclip to swap out the SIM.

You and plenty other people. Someday soon the real world will introduce itself and it will not be a pleasant experience. Having a degree in business and being able to speak both languages is a good start but you still need many other things to happen before you land a coveted position. For instance, your English is not up to a business standard. If you have experience in M&A and perhaps a masters in accounting you might land a job at a Big Four shop in Piter. Its just this way because there is no demand for your skills these days, sorry. :(

You didn't say what model phone. You need to be sure the phone is GSM-capable for it to work in Europe. TDMA is used only in North America. A dual-mode phone will work fine if you set it for GSM only. My Motorola MOTO Z6c World Edition from Verizon works fine there. Let her buy the SIM card there; they are cheap and easy to find, and they will link her to a Russian cell network as a local customer. You can get a voltage adapter from Radio Shack for $9.99 - and that will look more 'cool' than a local charger.

South Korea's Hyundai and SsangYong concerns also assemble several models in Russia. Ford produces the Focus, which is very popular in Russia, at a plant near St. Petersburg. How did the education system work in 19th century Russia

How did the education system work in 19th century Russia?
What forms of schooling were avaliable? Who were educated? What did they study?

Russia began the reform in education in 60’s of the 19th century and it was one of the most important reformations in renovated after serfdom country. The life had shown that it was necessary to create a new type of school, which would be adaptated to cultural specificity and necessities of people who lived in Russia. Such schools started to open since 1886 in the Turkistanian land. Appearance of such schools was received with distrust at first. There were fears of the local population that religious schools would be ousted. The facts of “purchase of students” are established, when wealthy families hired a student and sent him to the school instead of their own son. The beginning of the 19th century witnessed the dramatic changes in scientific developments in Russia caused by deep cutting social and economic processes and new political phenomena, i.e. the development of capitalism and growth of the national selfawareness became more evident after the war of 1812 in particular. It was the time when Russian literature and art - the public rostrum for progressive ideas - reached significant heights. The growing industry, educational system and culture demanded the ever increasing number of trained specialists. New universities appeared over the country's European part - in Kazan, St.Petersburg, Tartu and Kharkov. Universities joined their forces with the Academy in scientific research. In the late 18th and early 19th century the Academy transformed or ceased to accomplish some of its former functions, such as education. The arts were transferred under the supervision of the newly established Academy of Arts. The Academy's University was closed while the Academy itself concentrated on research. At the same time practically all its members continued their work at universities and scientific societies, the number of the corresponding members and honorary members living outside St.Petersburg became larger, the material basis improved. In the 1830s the Academy founded several museums (botanical, zoological, mineralogical, ethnographic and others) with varied collections. Do you know of any programs where I can spend the summer living/working in Russia

Do you know of any programs where I can spend the summer living/working in Russia?
I'm about to finish my MBA and would like to go to Russia before I begin working. I already have semi-fluent language abilities, but want to go there to improve my language skills and visit the country that I have been studying for the last couple of years. Does anyone know of any reputable programs where I can go work/volunteer/study for the summer (or maybe just a couple of weeks)? Food, lodging, safety, and low-cost are my main concerns (I'm a poor college student). Any suggestions? The only programs that I have been able to find are only for current students that will be applying the experience towards a college degree (I will have graduated by then).

I am in the same situation as you are. Graduation are mere months away from completion and I as well wish to go to Russia. The best solution I found for this want is through Cross Culture Solutions. This program takes care of lodging, traveling, and etc. The catch is you volunteer your time to help with the children. But that's the only reason why I am joining, to help the children. Spare time is given to you to utiliza on your own time as for you to discover Russia on your own. Not only will you be helping children, but also enjoying Russia. Here is the website: http://www.crossculturalsolutions.org/where_you_can_go/russia/default.asp Hope this finds your interest well. - G

Try searching through www.goabroad.com They often have a lot of programs with Russia. It would also be possible for you to go there to just teach English for 20 hours a week and have a lot of free time and money to travel around and see places.

What kind of Space Programmes Does Russia Possess Right now to Respond to US Laser Weapons in Space for 2020.

What kind of Space Programmes Does Russia Possess Right now to Respond to US Laser Weapons in Space for 2020.?
Is Russia working on Any new type of Space Weapons with Laser like the US? Is the New T-60s Jet Bomber that Russia was working on, is it in Military Use right now. Did they ever showcase this Jet rather than Keep it as Classified Information?

Russia is building up it's military, but I'm more worried that they would hand off suitcase bombs to terrorists for surreptitious transport. Western European and North American paranoia aside, Putin is probably more interested in the activities of China, Iran, and the rest of the local neighborhood.
2 :
T-60s is no bomber. The T-60 was a scout tank, from WW2, which was tested for deployment as a glider by putting some wings on it. This project was called Antonov A-40. Tu-60S would be a possible bomber made by Tupolev. But that designation is not used. The next possible is the rather classic Tu-160 bomber, which is what the B-1A should have been before they cut it to the B-1B. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-160 Also, Russia does not work on space weapons, as far as they are meant to be stationed in space. They refine their existing anti-ballistic missile designs and ASAT systems. Also possible is an revival of their nuclear powered ocean surveillance satellites, which are also military in nature. Finally: That the US are meant to work on such things is not a sign that they actually have a need for them, but just that the government thinks, it is cool. It is just a new way to throw tax payers money to the US industry. PS: Russia does not have suitcase bombs. Just like the US too, it was very hard making so small bombs and Russia has still no knowledge about how to make small nuclear warheads at all - that's why they have very large ICBMs, which are also great for launching satellites. The US suit case bomb has the size of a typical beer tub and the same weight. it is just possible to carry it by a strong human.

What you mean is the Russian particle weapon built into a nuclear submarine. They just surface, shoot down a us satellite or missile and dives under water again.

Will a Verizon phone work in Russia

Will a Verizon phone work in Russia?

Yes and no... is it a multi band "world phone" then it will work in Russia, but you will need a different SIM card you can but in Moscow or any other larger city. If your's isn't a world phone and you aren't an elitist you can but a AT&T flip multiband phone on ebay for about $20.
2 :
The correct answer is no. Verizon's network (and thus its phones) are not compatible with Russian networks. AT&T and TMobile phones will work in Russia.
3 :
I have one that works in Russia. It is the Verizon Android Hero, it has a SIM card. You need to have a multiband phone(triband or quadband) to have it work. All of my ATT phones work because they were multiband with SIM cards, Sprint never worked because it is a PCS system. It is also very expensive to call and even text with a Western phone. My advise would be to stop by any cell phone store and just buy a cheap phone there, any Russian company will be good. Beeline for example, or MTC. You can get a phone for about 20 dollars, 17 Euro. Then you just pay for minutes, all Russians I know just buy minutes, their phones are pay for use phones. With the cost for the phone and the minutes you buy, it is still cheaper than using your phone in Russia.

Come to my city, I'll give you work. You will be my corrector of the articles that I write in English. Sometimes only native-eng-speaker can see mistakes
2 :
An English speaking person with smarts can find a job. Do not expect an expat treatment of 90s. You will be another odd worker, who does not understand the simplest things about Russian reality, but is capable of speaking clean English. Language is not a profession, unless you are an interpreter.
3 :
There is probably a demand for ESL teachers, but other than that it might be a bit tricky! Russia isn't the easiest place to find work due to their laws and regulations. Search up jobs in Russia for expats on the internet.
4 :
Apart from teaching English and working in the medical industry, jobs are next to impossible to obtain especially for a foreigner.
5 :
If you work for a multinational company then yes, there is a possibility for you to come to Russia as an expat, depending on your skills and persistence.
6 :
As foreign companies are uncomfortable with the political and economic situation in Russia. The numbers of expats has dropped considerably in the last few years. But your chances really depend on your profession. I know some who are very well paid in the oil/gas industry. Teaching English is really for the experience, not financial gain. First off, you have the wrong terminology. There isn't a 1G iPhone. There are three models, the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS. And yes they are GSM phones so if unlocked they can be used anywhere in the world.

ask someone..
2 :
if it is prepaid then deactivate it in usa and then activate in russia ps good luck in russia
3 :
you need to make sure your phone is enabled to do roaming whilst in Russia good luck mega expensive
4 :
Go to the cell phone stores and talk to the service people. Stick w/ very well known Global comapanies (Sprint, At&t and maybe Verizon?) Get it in writing that your cell phone will work in Russia You may be better off just getting a phone while in Russia.
5 :
Your mobile phone must support GSM900/1800 format or CDMA (only in big cities). You can buy new SIM-card everywhere in Russia and make redirection from/to your number. Or (if you don't want to change your number) ask your operator about roaming in Russia.

In my poor opinion it doesnt matter where did u get the mobile because it does have to do with telecommunications. The card matters
2 :
your phone will work in Russia as long as the phone is unlocked (not locked to a particular phone carrier) and that you change your sim card to some sim card that works in russia.

Russia is so corrupt that nothing works as it should there. The government is underfunded again, economic growth is stalled, and there is a huge gap between rich and poor. You should try asking again when a functioning country tries it.

Why are my Visa electron cards not working in Russia

Why are my Visa electron cards not working in Russia?
I moved to Russia and brought with me some bank debit cards from my home country in Zambia. The thing is that I can't withdraw from any of the ATMs at any of the banks. While I could use the cards before, now I can't. Non of the local banks here know what is wrong. How do I get them to work?

No clue. Visa Electron should work. But it all depends on the bank-emitent.
2 :
Check your bank hasn't blocked the card. Mine does if I don't inform them I'm in Russia.
3 :
It happend to me once in Kiev. I had to telephone back to the UK to get my card unlocked
4 :
Briefly your spending habits (ie. being in Russia spending money) do not fit your profile the company has. To the computer someone stole your numbers and wants to use your card in a different country. My bet would be you didn't give notification that you were traveling. Once you contact your credit card company, your profile will be changed and you can spend as much as you want.
