Will iPhone work in Russia if I buy in an AT&T store?

Not at the moment. There is no Russian carrier that can activate the service at this time. Only the phone features will work (no voicemail, the video/music downloads from the store, etc will not work). You will also have to get the phone unlocked, to insert a foreign sim card in it and have it work. AT&T will not unlock it until you have service for 90 days minimum, and if you use a service to unlock it, it will void your warranty.

Yes, it will! You must unlock your phone first (I used SimFree). I use MegaFon in Russia and all features (except for visual voicemail) worked like a charm in both Moscow and in the NW region. The biggest pain is remembering to bring a paperclip to swap out the SIM.
