Why are my Visa electron cards not working in Russia

Why are my Visa electron cards not working in Russia?
I moved to Russia and brought with me some bank debit cards from my home country in Zambia. The thing is that I can't withdraw from any of the ATMs at any of the banks. While I could use the cards before, now I can't. Non of the local banks here know what is wrong. How do I get them to work?

No clue. Visa Electron should work. But it all depends on the bank-emitent.

Check your bank hasn't blocked the card. Mine does if I don't inform them I'm in Russia.

It happend to me once in Kiev. I had to telephone back to the UK to get my card unlocked

Briefly your spending habits (ie. being in Russia spending money) do not fit your profile the company has. To the computer someone stole your numbers and wants to use your card in a different country. My bet would be you didn't give notification that you were traveling. Once you contact your credit card company, your profile will be changed and you can spend as much as you want.
