They do. You just have to call your company and ask them to decode it for you before you leave.

Yes, depending on your carrier. Smart phones work in Russia and Ukraine. I have one that works in both. It is the Verizon Android Hero, it has a SIM card. You need to have a multiband phone(triband or quadband) to have it work. All of my ATT phones work because they were multiband with removable SIM cards, Sprint never worked because it is a PCS system. It is also very expensive to call, access the internet (you pay per minute and for the data) and even text with a Western phone. My advise would be to stop by any cell phone store and just buy a cheap phone there, any Ukrainian carrier company will be good. Beeline for example, or MTC. You can get a phone for about 20 dollars, 17 Euro. They'll set it up before you even leave the store. Then you just pay for minutes, all Russians and Ukrainians I know just buy minutes, their phones are pay for use phones, similar to a track phone in the US. With the cost for the phone and the minutes you buy, it is still cheaper than using your phone in Ukraine. The convienience of the use, is not reflected in the high cost of using your own phone. You even pay high rates for some random incoming text. Who needs that grief?

Yes but you have to unlock it if it is locked.

Yes your phone will work in Ukraine but advice is. Get your phone unlocked and then get a Kiev star or UMC sim card when you arrive in Ukraine or it will be very expensive to use

Do as Alexander advises. Buy a new phone or sim card for your phone. Kiev Star, UMC, MTC, Beeline are all acceptable. Even if you get a new sim card for your smartphone, you will still pay much to use it. Buy a cheap one as Alexander advised you and it will be better I think for you.
